Wet Carbon Interior Trim - Worth it?

So long story short after having breakfast this morning I had a good look at the M2's dry carbon interior trim bits and couldn't help but notice the similarity of its texture with the one of the grass woven plate mat I previously ate on. Picture below should give an idea.

I'm having a hard time unseeing the similarity and in all honesty have started to dislike the dry carbon look I already had my doubts on. The M-Performance alcantara trim set crossed my mind but the extra dry carbon bits you're left with don't make it an ideal solution.

After some research I stumbled on a German company that produces some interesting M2 products including a wet carbon trim set. It's all the MP trim set components with an additional center console piece (above the ash tray).

Pictures below and link to product

I'm tempted to pull the trigger on these but I'm not too convinced about the Price/Quality ratio. I'm also not sure if it will look good with the BMP leather dash cover.

Any suggestions or comments on this set?

Haha, there is a striking similarity. Definitely pricey, but the interior is the only weak point of the car so value is subjective. Nicest upgrade option available so far IMO, however at that price I would be tempted to get the steering wheel with the readout on it just for an oil temp gauge.

The fact that the "Lightweight" logo looks to be imbedded in the CF clearcoat, I'm turned off to it. Oh and it's $1600!

IMO. The dry carbon looks better than the wet one. The wet one looks cheaper to me

That's what I thought initially but it might just be a sticker on the surface (picture below)

Just write him an email. The owner of Lightweight is quite popular in all the German BMW boards. He has a marvelous M2 that outperforms nearly everything. His name is Marc (afaik) and all the products that Lightweight produces are top notch.

Nice looking stuff. The dry stuff looks like crap, but I went down the road with all these interior pieces on other cars. Just way too expensive.

SeanWRT Getting to the bottom of that

ryem3 Unfortunately price is not the best. The next best thing on the market in wet carbon costs around 200-300$ but it's just a knock-off wrap from a Chinese distributor

Natek You have a point but then again a lack of alternative materials used in the industry still make it one of the better aesthetic products available

That's actually how I feel too, especially with a lot of lesser brands making knockoff glossy looking carbon fiber. I think the matte carbon is a nice change and I like it a lot more than gloss.

You do realize that the picture is not carbon fiber and just a normal Ikea Plate, right?

Knock off wrap? All this cosmetic stuff is wrapped parts. I bought the OEM diffusor, it is an actual piece made purely from carbon fiber. The other problem is that all the wrapped parts turn out thicker than the original parts, creating fitment issues. Not sure what knock off Chinese versus "real" knock off carbon parts.

I'm pretty sure lightweight wouldn't charge 1500€ for a 3M Carbon Fibre Wrap

The chinese knock overs are simply standard trim sets wrapped in the above material

What about removing your stock parts and having a painter spray them with a few coats of clear?

I used to like wet/glossy carbon bits in cars until their vinyl wraps started popping up. Right now, I don't think there's a good enough cry carbon vinyl wrap that feels as good as what the one on the M2 has. It also doesn't feel as industrial as the M2.

Someone on this forum had the idea of doing it but never followed up

Probably easier said than done

I'm not talking about vinyl wraps. Plenty of real carbon fiber wrapped parts from China. Half the real carbon fiber stuff is made in plants in China.
