EDIT: Adding pictures. They are clearly different wheels. Red car has 19 inch wheels. Blue car has 18 wheels. This is an important observation!!!! |

Some of BMW's best work to date. The M2 will be incredible. To get an idea, just look over the spy pics, and compare a 435i to an M4, will give a decent idea. This will be an incredible car.

Some speculation. Looks like BMW might do a BMW 1M type of transformation of the 2-series "M2". No CF-roof, probably not as extensive changes to the chassis as the M3 / M4 (rear axle subframe bolted directly to the chassis etc), a tuned N55 engine but probably a M-diff and DCT.
As the 1M, will probably be a very fun car. But without the limited numbers and the novelty of being the first M with a turbo, will it be special enough? Really looking forward to seeing it in the flesh! |

Blue car is driving on snow, hence it makes more sense that it sports 18" wheels.

But if the M2 were solely coming with 19 inch wheels, like many people have thought, then this wouldn't be the case. No point in testing vehicle dynamic feel with a different wheel size, as the different wheels sizes provided different traction dynamics, especially in the snow. |

Hold on, need a few minutes. haha EDIT: Here we go. Images got distorted in terms of definition, but compare this in the initial photos that you posted, should be pretty clear. Another image, clearly no bump here. Honestly I'm still confused about what to expect in terms of wheel size now. Looool. Last edited by Adem1534; 01-21-2015 at 04:31 PM.. |

I was wondering why 18s without a drop looked so good on the mule. Now I see what you guys mean. Very interesting! The whole time since I've been following this car, I thought they were running 18s haha. I thought they were going to take the wheels from the M3/4 and offer them. Now it looks like BMW made bespoke wheels, albeit very similar design to the M3/4's 18s

As a previous owner of a 1M, I have been following this car since the news hit that they were in fact building one.
The only concern I have is how this will stack up to the current M3/4 lineup? When I purchased my 1M, the current M3 was a naturally aspirated V8 that had a much higher RPM redline than my six did. Will this car be too comparable to the M3, minus the few goodies I know won't be offered in this model?????? Just my daily pondering.

I've said it since the beginning that I'd be surprised if we saw CF. But I do think that the M2 will essentially just get a driveline straight from the M3/4, probably just without the CF driveshaft. It better be the direct mounted subframe though. Hell I actually thought they were just going to offer it with 6MT or 8AT. No doubt that if this is the case, this will turn off a lot of potential forum members. Personally, I'd be OK with that setup. It'll all come down to pricing then. If that is what's going to be offered, it better start in the high 40s or very low 50s. We shall see I guess

Of course not. These are test mules with pre-production bodywork.

I wouldn't discount the CF roof so quickly. BMW needs to reduce weight at not too great a cost, a few lbs here and there will add up if they do it right. But to keep everyone in suspense about the roof, all they've got to do is paint it. Forget the camo, too obvious and it'd ruin the surprise. Will be a real treat if the wraps came off the concept at Geneva and voila...there's the CF roof and no one saw it coming. IMHO of course.
