So I finally got around to getting an enet cable and iPhone adapter. I always feared that my 2021 M2 Comp with build date was going to be bad news. Non modifiable DME from 6/20 on. So I just delayed the "inevitable " knowledge that tuning was going to be near impossible!
But alas today was the day. Got it all hooked up and within seconds on the MHD app ——-
ECU date 5/27/20.
Just need a bench unlock. Which is still a task, but what a relief.
BM3 or MHD I'm coming! Soon.

makes sense, yeah I definitely have no chance then. congrats on your ability to bench unlock. much cheaper than having to send your ecu in to be cloned

Oooh now I'm curious. I have a cable and adapter, do I just need the app?

I tried similar with the folks at BM3 and did the app readout and sent it to them and they were not helpful in helping me understand what on the screen actually said it was built before or after the cutoff and just kept asking when my car's build-date was, which obvious may or may not mean much. Looks like I need to try to the MHD now

The MHD Flasher F+G app has a "unlock check" feature on the home page. You need a free account. I just used Facebook to log in. Then bought the cables on Amazon. And voila- it tells you your ECU date and if you can unlock

Thank you, I figured it was that simple but I can't seem to get it to connect. I think my cable is either faulty or incompatible. I have an enet cable with USBC adapter where I think I should be using a K+DCAN. Running an Android device.

I have the exact same one but I think that cable and adapter combo only works for iPhones.

I just ordered an Android specific cable anyway, should be here in a few days and I'll report back, hopefully with good news. My car was 7/20 build date also so I'm hoping my DME is from before the lock!

That’s good news.

Why not use the WiFi MHD flasher adapter? Heard it’s super quick.

Let us know which platform you choose. I am deciding between MHD and BM3 also.

I have an iPad Pro, to which I hooked up the enet cable via USBC adapter and the app won't recognize it. I then tried whatever wireless OBD devices (bluedriver and MX+) I had laying around. None of these options seem the compatible. I also tried to find a Windows SW download to use the USBC unit and can't find a windows version.

What options do I have? Do I HAVE to purchase a different adapter?

Doesn't it just tell you if you need a bench unlock? Which would pop up regardless? Not sure if software can check for the new bootloader, that's why everyone has been checking the manufacture date.

In response to above, just tested. The app seems to suggest my M2C with DME of 07/2020 only requires a bench unlock. Not convinced. Emailed their team for advice. Will report back.

Let me know. I consider a bench unlock as a huge win vs. having to buy an older DME and replacing

So I heard back from them. Initially they said it looked like I was lucky and I should be able to bench unlock no problem. I asked for confirmation and if they are 100% sure/is there a unique error given for those with locked bootloader as I don't believe it's detectable via software etc. Then, they said they can't be 100% and I'd need someone to try and bench unlock it and see what happens :. So, basically they don't know what they're talking about and 06/2020 is indeed still a cut off.

My cable came in today so I pulled the information and I have a 7/29/20 ECU build date. I got the same message about requiring a bench unlock which I'm inclined not to believe.

I was looking into ECU cloning options either way so this really changes nothing for me.

I believe some of the earlier ones don't even need a bench unlock, right? I'm 7/2018 and was thinking BM3, but don't want to buy without knowing first. Not sure how to check.

That’s only if you didn’t do any DME updates at the dealer. If you did any updates then you could be out of lock.
