That's just silly. The Merc is rolling on a 60 treadwear tire and the Cayman is on 220.

Nice to see the cars in action but the results mean absolutely nothing. On the same tire it would likely be the Cayman, closely followed by the CS and significantly slower Merc.

Those 718 GTS 4.0 in M/T config with addition of a DDC suspension control unit could make me switch..

The GT4 is nice and better on track but I want to have fun 100% of when I drive the car not be waiting for the next track event and think about wear/mileage and all on a "GT" car..

I know a guy who baught low miles GT4 and he already knows when he's going to sell it based on the miles he puts on it, I understand why one would do this but find it so boring, I want to drive my cars to the ground, have things break and live the full experience.

I was interested in the GTS4.0 but the price is too high (very close to GT4/Spyder) especially for something that won't be my daily. Likely just going to go for 981 at half the price.

Dang, BMW FTW! That GT4 didn't even have a radio and had a freaking fire extinguisher and managed to edge out the CS by less than a second. Pretty impressive for the little CS. Would love to see what a regular Comp would do with a decent set of tires. This just means that in reality, we have very competent little cars.
we also have to consider the extra weight of the DCT in the CS, and the slower shifts in the GT4. if we had the CS manual would be a more fair comparison.... I still think that the GT4 would be about 1.4 sec faster than the manual CS! :

Well, Porsche released the following, which includes the update I have been waiting for, and is confirmed in configurator. Namely, PDK now available in GTS 4.0 and GT4. Relevant snippet and other information in full release below.

///AVM

"Optional: 7-speed PDK for 718 Cayman GT4, 718 Spyder and 718 GTS 4.0 models
For the first time, the 718 Cayman GT4, 718 Spyder as well as the 718 GTS 4.0 models will be optionally available with the 7-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission. This transmission offers the potential for quicker acceleration through rapid and seamless shifts. Six-cylinder 718 variants ordered with this option are expected to reach U.S. dealers in early 2021.

It seemed like the tires were cold with how much the cars were slipping. You need to get a good 2 laps in before starting the hot lap in order to get heat into the tires.

I re-listened to the video with more sound and the 718 reminds me so much of my M2 with stock PSS tires, you almost don't ear the CS and AMG tires, It's what happened when I swapped a set of Cup2's in my M2, the grip limit got so much higher it's impressive.

More fun and predictability usually does not go in pair with more grip unless your a super driver and know very well the car.

Yes, throw a PDK and some Cup2 tires on the GTS and it's a different video. . . faster or slower, I really do not care.

I know a lot of people do on this AND the Porsche forums, but a few track seconds one way or the other has never influenced me personally in a purchase decision. . .

I do not go to the track and, even if I did, I'd be the guy on right trying to have fun and stay alive at the same time.

Pretty sure I would experience similar level of enjoyment, albeit a different driving experience in the GTS vs M2C . . . and, yes, traction control fully engaged.

I drove Cayman GTS previous gen right after driving 911 991.2 gts and this was exactly how I was in a cayman. The 911 felt far more planted and didn't exhibit these cayman traits. 911 was definitely a better car.

No way!
I have a manual 718 Spyder coming in August. I just think the platform is made for an exciting drivers car and Manual fits that much better. It's not a track car. Just my 2 cents.

Agreed, I guess autobloggers cater more to a bigger audience that want to know the details about the car as they probably wouldn't do the research themselves.

As we are both here on this forum, we already know the car inside out and purely want to see the car getting driven like it should on the race track

Guess you can say we are the niche crowd.

Anyone feel like the driver was holding back on the m2 as well? I'm not sure what mode or TC/ESC settings he had but it seems like he could've been pulling harder/earlier in some turns idk maybe it was because of grip but I'm not sure.

I took that to be high levels of predictable grip from the MPSCs and avoiding going over the limit with the R Comps. It could also be driver style. Although the Cayman looked very twitchy in comparison with P Zeroes. I assume the same driver?
