I'll try that Waze also if I'm having that same issue.

Phone call commands won't work through iDrive while using carplay though. My WAZE was working fine until the last WAZE update.

hi guys, i have a question for you. I tried searching old threads without finding a solution.
I didn't choose the carplay option when I ordered the car and I don't have the wifi module. Is it possible to code apple carplay without wifi module always using the cable to connect the phone to the car?

You need the hardware for wireless Apple CarPlay. I think some folks have retrofitted the wireless antenna?

I don't believe wired Apple CarPlay is supported and FAQ bullet #3 seems to indirectly confirm that.

It seems that the full screen apple car play is now offered by dealers. Does anyone know if I have to pay for this upgrade in my 2021 model and if I do update, does that make one day tuning my car even harder? What I'm asking is do I stay on the lower firmware for a better chance at it being cracked?

Hey all, not sure if the answer is somewhere on this thread, but if it is please point me in the right direction. In any case, I can't seem to get google maps to display on my apple carplay. The only app i see off my iphone XR is spotify. I recall when i first got my car back in 2019 i saw google maps and other apps like imessage, weather channel etc.
I tried disconnecting and reconnecting to no avail.

Any tips?

You should go into your CarPlay setting in your iPhone and select your car -> customize and make sure you have added Google maps to your list. And you can also organize them in the order you which for them to display.

Hi Thanks. I tried that and i see the list of apps available and it looks correctly the way i like. Its bizarre cause i don't have the interface on my screen which shows the apps as thumbnails. I can only see them through the Media menu.

Are you sure you are connected through CarPlay?

Not every M2 comes with CarPlay as standard. Make sure to connect as CarPlay - you need to see icons on the screen

Is there any way (while using CarPlay) to prevent the screen from dimming whenever you change volume or do something in Carplay. Its just plain stupid...

I’m having trouble getting my music library to play on Apple CarPlay. Keep getting this message.



I’ve tried unpairing and deleting both on phone and in car, then repairing. It all goes well, but I still get the same message. Looked everywhere on my phone w/o success. FYI, iDrive 6. And, same thing happens in my M2C and 19 X3 M40i. Not certain when it started, i.e. iOS update or when I split my wife’s and my devices into separate Apple ID’s.

Btw, everything else, phone, maps, etc works fine.

Thought I’d ask here before I called up my favorite BMW Genius. Can someone point me in the direction or tell me what I’m missing.

I've activated CarPlay myself with the help of a website (not sure if I can post the link here)

Anyway, i've installed the update, CarPlay was working good (and wireless) but my phone needed to stay near the shifter because my car didn't had the antenna. My phone was not connecting if i leaved it in my pocket.

I've retrofitted an antenna myself that I found on amazon and now I can be even out the car, at 5 meters and it still works ...

Both weren't difficult to do, cost of the operation for the lifetime activation + antenna was around than 60 $ (a bit more in total because i bought the ENET interface cable and also some plastic tools to open the dash)

If needed (and permitted), I can share more of it with some links for the activation and antenna type (also the way to remove the radio to install it was on youtube and i took some photos, i've even made it without dismanteling anything or remove any connectors with the help of a lot of blankets).

I've got one of the first 2016 M2s so it has ID4 and I received a notice about 3G Cellular Technology Discontinuation and that my vehicle is eligible for a technology upgrade and to please schedule an appointment with your local BMW Center to receive the upgrade, which will be free of charge.

Called my BMW dealer and they ordered a new head unit for me and will schedule an appointment to install once it arrives.

I'm assuming this means I'll be able to have CarPlay and that I'll also have ID5 or 6 as well. Has anyone already gone through this?

Also wondering if it will come with latest firmware (NBT_EVO_X), which means I could code for fullscreen with BimmerCode.

Finally, wondering what the deal will be with respect to free CarPlay subscription in this case which I would hope applies.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm 99% certain that all that will be replaced is the combox - not the entire NBT Evo head unit, which would cost BMW a crap-ton of cash to swap out. So nothing will change other than you'll have 4G/LTE connectivity capability. All other functionality remains the same.

My 2017 M2 (Production Date: 2016-08-31) only required a software update. A bonus was iLevel/iStep being made current: F020-21-11-540. The work was completed yesterday, Saturday, Jan 15 in the morning.

If I update my NBTevo_M iDrive to add CarPlay via USB (using one of the mentioned vendors), will I need to reactivate it if the iDrive version gets updated by the dealer at some point in the future?

Car is an '18 LCI with NBTevo_M* and factory-installed WiFi antenna. For less than $60, adding CarPlay via USB seems a no-brainer, but want to be sure whether it could get clobbered by an iDrive update later.
