I may get a tray and lose my insert. It'll give the space much more depth. I didn't know it existed before I put on my arts and crafts smock.

1) Telephony package 2) Sunroof (MY2017) I didn't get the Telephony package and my car came with the rubber/plastic tray insert. I'm assuming if Telephony was optioned, it would've come with the cradle. |

I did this on my 2016 M2, using the OE rubber insert in place of the snap in base plate. In addition, I modified the USB wire that plugs into the base plate by shaving off two small tabs so that it would accept an OE USB socket from another application. (part #84109237656) I plugged a USB extension cable into that, and then an Apple lighting/USB cable that runs to the Proclip mount on my dash. It works perfectly. All the wires are hidden within the guts of the console, and I am able to use the other USB socket in the console for an iPod full of music when I don't want to stream.
