I know Google and other programs are better but how often does BMW update their maps? I have a 21 and am surprised there isn't a newer map available. I'd like to be able to use the built in system with a bit more confidence.

Updates are done over the air but only for the zone you are in. Mine updates about once year. I think there use to be a way to download data to a thumb drive from BMW and then upload it to the car, but the BMW nav still doesn't have alerts like Google and Waze do. I haven't used the BMW navigation in years.
