Car wash at dealer
I have an upcoming appointment on Monday. Now I normally don’t have them wash my car but I’m short on time and would consider it if others have had a good experience….

I have had mine washed at the dealership with no problems. I skip the wash if it is a rainy day.

I never get my M2 washed, other BMWs I am happy to get a free wash. The SA even told me thats a good idea. I have never even taken my M2 to a good car wash, always been hand washed by me.
But it all depends on the type of car wash your dealer has. Its really up to you |

I have full PPF so I don't mind if they wash the car.

My dealership always does a great job and has never scratched up my car. And my car isn't a museum piece, it's a semi-daily driver, so I don't lose any sleep over letting the dealer wash it. At least not this dealer - I do realize some can be absolutely abusive so I understand the hesitancy many have.

If you care about swirls on your clear coat, never let them wash your car. Even if they handwash it. There could be a rock in the sponge and there goes your paint job.

This is what I wrote when I went into the dealer for service. I stopped going to the dealer right after my warranty was up.
Print out multiple papers and put them inside your car. **NO CARWASH** **NO DME UPDATES** **NO TEST DRIVES** This worked for me.

No, never ever...
Rather have a dirty car then a badly washed one, panels missed, swirls, wheels just jetwashed, door jams not done, not dried... list goes on |

I think a sign that says please don't wash is nice, I have one. But one that says "this car is dialed in" is kinda douchy to me, but not surprised being a OG thing |

My SA printed a full page “NO Wash” sign for me to keep in the glove box. I put it on the dash as soon as I pull in the garage. From my experience having them mark your account in the computers as no wash doesn’t do the job.

In high school, I used to work for a Porsche, Audi, Jaguar dealer as a Service Porter. It was a fun job. A lot of it was washing cars that came in for service. We generally took really good care of the customers cars. However, we didn't use the two bucket method and used a bunch of chemicals on the wheels. This was probably the best free car wash you could get, but no where near as good as what I use at home. Nowadays, it's a auto wash, which can leave swirl marks. I would honestly let the service advisor know to not wash your car. Just not worth the hassle, if you care about the appearance of your car, and let's be honest, you wouldn't be here if you didn't, then let them know you don't want the car wash.

Just had my exhaust camshaft bolts re-torqued to fix the cold start clacking and they had the car for nearly 2 weeks. Normally my SA @ the dealer dealer knows not to wash mine, but someone must not have read the work order and washed it anyway. I found a strip of the thick washing cloth ripped off and wedged between my car's body panel and the rear taillight housing. Those automatic machines are pretty forceful to be able to wedge a piece of thicc fabric that's about 1/4" thick into a gap that's around 1/16", and then tear it off when it got wedged into my tailight!
The material itself felt quite soft, but what really gets you is all of the embedded dirt, sand, and grit in the washing material that gets dragged across your car's surface. It's no wonder automatic washers cause swirls and other micro scratches in clearcoat. It will only not scratch your car on the FIRST and only car wash after they changed the cloth out of the machine - which probably only happens once every 2-4 years! Thankfully I have full front and sides xpel wrapped. |
