They look the same as OEM to me

Edit on closer look yes they haven’t got the same construction around the hub as OEM I’ll avoid
Yes oe discs are aluminium bell and iron disc with pin fixing to allow movement for expansion.

Well one independent said the minimum thickness isn’t actually the point they need changing but when they can’t be re used
Meaning you can’t put new pads on them
So suggested waiting until the pads are worn…

Not sure how true that is ?……..

Thanks Man
ML Performance seems to be the best price in the UK

I’m not sure if I’d go for OEM pads again, as others have said they are harsh on the discs
My pads still have loads of meat on them, surprised the pads have outlasted the discs tbh
But it does seem to back up the opinion the stock pads are harsh

Shame pad options are more limited / expensive for the big brakes.

Should be just one for the L front and one for the R rear.

Yes left (uk nearside) front.

I bought them when i did all my brakes, but they hadn't worn at all so I didnt actually need them, sent them back.

Better to have one just in case though, depends how worn your pads are.

For sure. I swapped pads recently. Got distracted and didn't remember to unhook the connector from the pad. They snap pretty easily. It would have been fine for another pad swap had I been paying attention. I use a little flathead to rotate and pop them off.

I'm curous about this as well. If you think about it we only have pad wear sensors and that is what tells the dealer to do brakes. I have about .13mm left on my fronts with 32.6k on them. I'm not changing anything until my pads need replacing.

I have a few less miles 27k, and .2mm left
If I didn’t change discs until my pads sensor indicated I’d get to at least 40k maybe more. To be honest I’d be ok with changing at 40k ish miles, but at a relatively low mileage doesn’t sit well with me, especially considering the cost.

The independent said when the discs get below the minimum they’re not going to explode or anything, I’ve also read the minimum thickness is related to how far the pistons would have to push.
So if you have a fair bit of meat on the pads I’d think it would be ok

That makes sense in that nobody would measure disk thickness until they changed the pads as brake maintenance check is dictated through pad wear (for users following dash service info anyway).

Certainly BMW don't just measure disks for no reason, they only do what the computer tells them to do.... unless of course they were touting for unnecessary work.....

Thanks I’m going to wait until I get the message from the brake pad sensor then get everything done.

This BMW dealer did a similar thing to me with my OGM2 said the pads needed doing very soon, spoke to another dealer who said get them done when the indicator comes on.
A year later I sold my OGM2 in that time the sensor still had not come on.

Trouble is the dodgy dealer is 5 minutes walk from my house, very convenient for me

What does the idrive say re mileage to go on the front? It's only an estimate but should give some clue.

Yeah it only estimates pads, seems like your years away yet, didn't even know it went that high, mine did't say that many miles even when it was brand new...

Oh does it change over time ?

I thought it was static like it said 45k miles when new….?
The pads do look like they have a lot of meat left on them

My god, 3 pages of 'how cheap can I get with my maintenance' on an M-car. Just sell it so that somebody who really cares can take her in and start to treat her right.

I have absolutely no problem in getting the maintenance done when it needs to be done

But there are a lot places out there that will take advantage of people with a car like this

For example my local dealer said the rears needed to be done to
I have had an Indy measure the discs and check the pads, they are less than 50% worn.
For the rear brakes service I was quoted £1800 so approx $2160
The front service was quoted at £2645 so approx $3200
My car at the time had 25.5k on it
Does that sound right to you ?

Every 25k miles All M2 Comp owners are advised to spend $5.4k having brakes serviced

Jesus the e90 rod bearings problem is nothing if you have an m2 with 2nh brakes
Crank hub fix I don’t know what fuss is about cheap compared to the 25k mile brake service

Thanks for the contribution though
I can introduce you to my local dealer if you want I’m sure they would love to meet you

Getting the right maintenance, not cheapest, and not being shafted by BMW to the tune of £3000 for brakes that have 40,000 miles left on them.

If you think you have to be shafted like that to be a "real M owner" then you carry on.

Its estimated on mileage and driving style (fuel economy probably) then when they get to the wear sensors it has a better idea, they are multi stage sensors not all or nothing.

Do you do a lot of town / mway driving?

Usually on the made-of-cheese BMW discs the cracking or scoring / rusting will force replacement before wear. My OE discs were scrap at 4yrs / 16K due to bad edge corrosion / flaking and cracks between the drill holes.
