high pitch beep sounds from engine bay?
Hello everyone,
I'm new to Bimmerpost and have a question. I own a bayside blue M2C since November 2022 and am kinda happy so far. (usual rear-indicator stuff and so on) I recently installed the M-Performance front grill and experienced weired beeping sounds from the engine bay, approx at the area around the big charge-pipe on the driver side. It's a short high pitch Bieeep sound that has no repeating pattern, it just sounds like an anti marten device (which I don't use). 1st time I experienced this was after the "big service" the car had at a BMW dealership (spark plugs, oil, filters etc.). Online, I've read it could be fuel-related- triggering the HP pumps? No clue, It's really loud - you can hear it when the car hood is locked and the car is locked too! It disappears after the car is locked for a long time. |

Hello!
I tried to record it. (mp4) the sound comes from the ChargePipe area driver side. Excuse the dark video, I am recording/moving above the hood. Situation: Closed hood, locked car. These Beeps disappear when the car is locked for a long time. Does not seem too normal if you ask me. I uploaded it on an OG German file upload site. If that's not OK with the mods I am going to put it onto my NAS! https://filehorst.de/d/euEdjrIx Last edited by danvansan81; 07-25-2023 at 11:19 AM.. Reason: attachment |

Wow I've never heard anything like that ever before. As far as i know there is nothing capable of beeping like that under the bonnet.
No idea what that is |

Haha, yep that's what I thought...
Its super weired and very loud. The only thing I could find online were postings about FuelPumps ect getting "preloaded" resonating on metal and sounding like a beeper. I might need to investigate this further..... Its really like a parksensor or something - really annoying. Hard to locate. |

If the car is off and locked then fuel pump arent running.
When you unlock the car you can hear low pressure fuel pump run, i think it's in the tank. High-pressure pumps are engine driven so they won't do anything. |

Hmm. That sounds more like a solenoid or motor operating, yours seems more like a beeper.
That video is also a 320d, shares almost nothing with your S55 |

Yes, Mine sounds too, like a solenoid contacting with bare metal.
It's very electrical/metallic screechy.. I am going to check if I somehow can locate it better.. :/ Its about here- mid height, maybe even deeper. |

get a basic engine stethoscope to locate the source (you can find a local German version, this is just for example: https://www.harborfreight.com/mechan...dbf58b8f221ff7 )

Hello everyone,
I've just registered here because I'm having exactly the same issue as the OP was and I'm wondering if he ever found the cause? After turning the engine off and locking the car I'm getting the same noise, it repeats every 30 seconds and lasts around half an hour. It sounds like an electrical beep on video but in person it sounds like some sort of mechanical noise alongside a pressure release, almost like a locomotive whistle. This is the only case on the internet where I've found someone experiencing what I think is the same issue as me. Nobody I know, even my local specialist has any idea what it could be. Here's a video clip where I've jumbled a few instances into a short video: https://youtube.com/shorts/Wu7a4uc8c...jriMFEOi24CrYl Last edited by RS2OOO; 01-10-2024 at 03:22 AM.. |

Removing the trickle charger didn't stop the "beeps". At the time I assumed the car had been doing this before and I only heard it this time because the bonnet was open. Unfortunately the car did it again after the next drive, no trickle charger attached. I found a post on reddit with someone having the exact same issue and the noise was identical to mine, only their car was a 335d. This leads me to conclude the issue may be associated with a common part, as opposed to being specifically M2 / S55 related. I messaged various M specialists I know and all but one replied to say they had no idea what the noise is and would need to witness it in person. Then one specialist replied to say he thinks its to do with the throttle body adaptations and he'd send me some instructions to follow (maybe to manually reset the adaptations? He didn't say). Anyway I'm still waiting for him to get back to me. |

All of my BMWs since 2006, have made this beep noise to varying degree once in a while, it is nothing to worry about. Out of the many cars no alien has come out from under the hood 😁

That part doesn't seem right to me, especially considering the first time it was after a short 20 minute drive. |

Sometimes it would go for almost an hour other times. It will stop after a minute. Now my 21 comp has yet to do it. It makes other clicky noises.

I have a feeling mine is related to the throttle bodies, I followed instructions to 'reset the adaptations' which some say does nothing, but mine has not made the noise since (only 2 journeys so far). If it is a whistle on yours then maybe it is throttle body related, or some kind of vacuum or air leak. |
