Final production numbers

Has anyone been able to find the final production breakdown for the M2C?

It's obnoxious because you have to do some math to get the M2C numbers. If you're curious about number of M2 comps sold in North America, it's about 11700 (total F87) minus the roughly 7000 OG M2's and then minus a few hundred more for the CS versions. Call it about 4500 comps in the US/Canada.

It's no wonder I rarely see an M2 from any year. It's a really low run car if that accounts for all years of production.

I know 11,753 is an approximation, but does that number include Canada? Because the BMW graphic from bmwblog (and post referenced above) clearly states USA. If it's USA only, looks like around 5340 M2C in USA.

11,753 total USA (approx)
- 5,824 OG (excluding Canada)
- 589 M2 CS (excluding Canada)
~ 5,340 M2C in USA

Good point, you may be right! I'm assuming all these numbers have been released to us via BMW's marketing department, so I wouldn't put it above them to miss something like including Canadian sales in the US numbers, but ~5300 might be a better guess.

I think they are abundant in Europe but yeah in the US I rarely see any. I do live in the country so here I never see them but I have seen a couple closer to the city but overall have seen less than 5 just driving around.

However at track days there are a ton, specially if its a BMW day, there will be 5+ always

Owned my M2C for about one year, and I've seen a total of one other M2C (a parked DCT in HS), and an OG M2 in LB that drove by me once. That's it. This includes country and NYC sightings, or lack thereof.

M2Cs are perhaps not "rare" numbers-wise, but compared to, say, the ubiquitous 911 ... they are super rare. It's just one more thing I love about owning an M2C.

thats interesting, I had not seen a single one before I bought my car, I am in the catskills though. I then went to NYC and saw 2 M2cs within 1 day which seems like it was luck.

Come to a bmw track day at lime rock, you will see them all lol

I had to look this up for perspective - there were over 25k e9x m3s sold in north america.

There is no way only 4,500 Comps were sold in US/Canada.

although it does sound low but just never see them around + last year of production was basically during covid so I might have an easier time believing it.

Again, the best answer we are going to get is an approximation. The numbers I provided in the other thread are accurate to about +/- 10%. The numbers do seem reasonable to me.

Seems very low considering in the relatively tiny UK we had peak numbers of c3200 auto comps and 405 manuals.

So 3700 ish max.

Numbers slightly lower now due to wrecks / thefts.

Seems like a low number for the U.S., but something at the bottom end of the range could be possible. After all, there was the COVID shock disruption, the supply of chips, and the shipping port backlogs. Also increasing commodity costs. Worldwide auto sales were down 15% in 2020 from 2019, and have yet to recover to pre-covid levels. I'm sure some of the specialty models were more impacted than others.

I live at the edge of the high-population San Francisco Bay Area and still exceedingly rarely see an M2 unless I’m at a Cars&Coffee, BMWCCA club drive, or similar event. It’s so rare that, after I get home from work, my kids will excitedly tell me about seeing one on the road.

And whenever I see one I think, “wow, that car has presence, what is it!?!” Followed by, “ohhhhh, that’s an M2! Wow, looks soooo good!”

I don't live in a highly populated area compared to most dense US cities, but I've only seen a M2 in the wild twice that I can remember, and both times it was an OG, never seen a Comp in the wild. I'm thinking the production numbers in Canada are pretty low. If I check Autotrader for a Comp for sale at any given time there's likely only 2 listed in the entire province (pop ~4.4M).

Way more likely to see a Ferrari or Lambo than a M2, where I live anyway.

I live up in Marin and occasionally see a my twin, a m2C hockenheim silver, although mine is manual. I go down in Palo Alto often and see a blue one too, the guy has a wave detail in the back window that looks cool.

Anyway, they stick out
