M2 CS torque

Driving the car in the past month has made me wonder why didn't BMW give the car more torque. The car chassis with cup 2's feels that it can handle more. Were they worried about the M2 CS beating the laptimes of the M3/M4 CS?

S55 Platform, Warranties, Crank Hub issues, Previous platform performance etc..

To your point, one could say every car could have more torque.

I daily drove a 707 HP Jeep Trackhawk and wanted 1000 HP / Torque. That platform could handle it with no drivetrain mods.

Enjoy what you have would be my advice.

Personally disagree on the more torque. It feels fine to me. As an owner of Hellcat, more torque does not help that car. You just can't put the power down on normal street tires. With the M2 CS I feel it has just enough power to be at the point where the power can be put down. I just don't see more power helping anything given the tire sizes.

I'm encouraged by your evaluation if the Cup2 240s. They'll be the next tires for my car.
I think the MPSS tires and a M2CS tune are right at the limit for tire spin. I can't wait to try the Cup2s.

Are you past break-in period? Just wondering if you're basing your assessment on not pushing the car above 5k rpm. She sure just wakes up around there.

I HIGHLY advise against any more torque in a car with such a short chassis... it will create all types of trouble... chassis flex, side to side movements and potential loss of traction in low gears... the PSC tires are good but they will still be overwhelmed with enough TQ. Power up top sure... but not down low TQ.

Manual and DCT can't handle more.

Thats why new cars are moving to ZF 8 speed and the G80 manual is reduced power.

More than likely they are limiting torque now, so you don't get full steam till 3rd gear..........

What I was mainly eluding to is why BMW kept the torque the same as the M2C and didn't push it as they did significantly with the M3CS up to 445 lb/ft. I'm not saying that it needs more torque or that I'll tune it. I'm just asking the question because it puts the power down impressively.

I would slightly disagree. Some RWD turbo cars feel like they'd be better off with less torque because of not being able to put the power down most of the time.

Ah, gotcha, I would guess they just changed the number in the spec sheet to ensure the M3 looks better on paper.

I would guess these motors are identical which is why the dyno numbers are so strong.

Well I think it was to give that nice sensation of power continuing to build as revs climb, that naturally aspirated feeling from a turbocharged engine.
This has been called out as one of the wonderful things about the CS from many owners and reviews.

I've driven lots of tuned S55's and my takeaway is flat torque tunes are the way to go for great feel and chassis balance, and the CS comes with one stock.
