M2 OG 255 Front, 275 Rear Tires on Stock Rims?
Just returned from a weekend at VIR with my 2018 M2 on its original Continental Sport Contact 3 tires. Had some great runs, but these tires are nearly down to the wear indicators. Reasonably good performance with even wear, so no real complaints. However, I am considering going with 255/35 front, 275/35 rear tires on the stock 9 and 10 inch rims. Do any of you know if this tire size increase causes any clearance or handling issues? With track brake pads and high temp brake fluid, I believe the next biggest improvement for track runs is better tires of the Extreme Summer variety--no R compound as this is my daily driver.
I could use a bit better corner turn in and braking performance on track, and was hoping a slight width increase may help at both ends. Also, I would like to upgrade to the Goodyear Supercar 3 tires, but it appears those may not be available anytime soon. I suppose the Michelin SuperSport 4S tires are a good alternative. Any suggestions about my comments above? Thanks! |

I ran that tire combination on my M2 with stock rims. No problem. Tires we're Michelin PS4Ss.

RE71rs in that size will rub the liners on a M2C lowered 20mm as the tire shoulders are quite square. Spacers I run are 10/5mm.
Heat gun for the liners and a slight trim from the rear bumper support tab is required. I reckon with street tires clearance will be ok but haven't tested personally. Maybe this thread will help Increasing tire size from 245/265 to 255/275: any cons ? https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1468422

I ran 255/275 on mine with ps4s tires back in September at VIR with no issues. If you drive aggressively VIR will destroy the outsides of a 300tw tire pretty fast, especially left front in full course layout.
I'm switching to dedicated 18" square set with a stiffer 200tw tire for next season. Going to check wear and move into camber plates if needed. |

Guys, thanks for all your insight on tire sizes! Based on your responses, I will likely go with the upsize 255/35 Front, 275/35 Rear to replace the 280 tread wear Contis that came with the car and now need replacing. Interesting that sizes may vary somewhat with the same specs between tire suppliers. My son has been running Goodyear Supercar 3 tires on his near stock 2017 Camaro SS 1/LE and has been very happy with them, so I hope I can get a set of those. I know, different car altogether than my 2018 M2, but they have worn and performed well for him at the track... including at VIR, Watkins Glen, Dominion and NJMP tracks.
Thanks again! |

On stock suspension? I just bought my 18" 9.5 track wheels but wasn't sure if I could do 275 on stock suspensikn/camber. With 265 I had already planned on 5mm spacers up front.

Thanks for asking. When I went down to 18’s, I ended up doing TCK DA’s with -3 camber up front and a wheel spacer as well. This was on a 9.5in wide titan 7 wheel.

I have the AD09 255/275/19 right now. Great street tire, very good grip from cold...steering feedback is improved. Sidewall is stiffer but not horrible. Tire noise is livable, probably quieter than RE71RS. Dry grip is slightly below RE71RS and A052 but a step up from PS4S for sure. Only place where they fall short is heat resistance if you're in a hot climate and autocrossing (or track racing, I assume) - they overheat pretty quickly, you can't over drive them.

Things you need to consider for track on dual purpose car: optimal rim and tire sizes for track, front camber, tire type. All 3 are needed to improve front end grip and turn in. gl |

I found this thread to be helpful. I am also looking at new summer tires in the spring and considering the 255-275 option on stock wheels. Car is my daily and will see a few track weekends per year. I am thinking A052, but concerned about treadlife compared to the PS4S. Can anyone share experience with treadlife on these tires? Interestingly, the 245/265 PS4S have a 0.5” larger tread width than the 255/275 variant. But the 255/275 has a slightly larger section width. Which really matters?

The A052 is a one-lap competition tire for rich boys. The PS4S is a Summer tire that does everything. Might as well compare a Ferrari to a Civic. If you can afford an M2 you can afford both. There is no tire that's going to beat the PS4S for a daily tire, keep your standard wheels for those tires then pick the track rat tire/wheel combo for the type of laps you'll be doing. TW is more important than SW. |

For longevity the 71RS is your tire for sure, it's also very friendly at the track. It's the king of 200 tw tires for sure. |

RT660 or RE71RS is the move for track tires currently, but, they’re for the track. I’ve you’ve got the cash to burn you can split the difference with a Cup2 240 but it’s going to be compromising outright grip on track as compared to the RE71RS & RT660. Big believer in the right tool for each job, and that requires two tools. |
