Damn those orange US reflectors are made of lead or maybe even unobtanium.

Maybe they want to sell more 2018s before people find out about the M2C.

There aren't that many left in the Midwest. Most dealers (except the very largest ones) have only one - or none.

There are 362 new 2018 M2s listed on just cargurus.com. There is plenty of supply around the country, and most likely this is the reason BMWNA is holding off as long as possible. It wouldn't be surprising that they wanted to hold off until after the Memorial Day weekend sales.

There are a lot out west sitting. They're going to have to incentivize them!

Cheers,

Will be there as well!

As i understood they'll let us drive plenty of other M's, but probably not the M2 Competition. I was warned, no fotos allowed in the closed room where the M2C will be presented! :/

Albin Mächler (the race driver, www.albins.ch) will be on site and tell about his experience with the M2C
Cool!

Thanks for the infos!

I heard that we can drive other Ms but assume as well that there will be quite some restrictions on the M2C...

So see you there

I am seriously considering it now also, although I keep thinking, I wanted a smaller car than the M3, but if it's lighter, does it matter?
I wouldn't totally give up on the M2C in favor of the M3. The M3 looks and drives like a very big car. It's fast but its long wheelbase lacks that sporty, toss-able feel. Great car for buyers that need the room but it has become more and more of a luxo-brute with each new iteration. I am certain M2C's handling will be much livelier and more fun than the M3's, even though it may not be reflected on timed stats.

There's no shame in getting a leftover M2LCI either
If you get a stage 2 tune with supporting hardwares, you will already have more power than even upgraded tire size can handle. Use a fraction of the money saved on a guilt-free purchase of that fancy MPerf CF hood

I checked for a client on Monday how many sticks were left in the Eastern Region (13 states) only 22. My math says there are only around 100 manuals left in the US and that includes any unit still in production.

Many of those units are orders for customers so the number in reality is probably closer to 50...

There's going to be a pregnant gap between delivery of the M2C and the current N55.

I'll check the exact numbers and report back Friday...

Are you guys seriously concerned about 150lbs? If so, start eating salads and drinking water. Most North Americans are overweight. I'm sure a lot of us can stand to drop 20-40lbs, some even more. I had my LCI corner balanced for a 200lbs driver...I'm only 6'1...no way I should weigh this much...180 is more reasonable. Much cheaper (and healthier) to lose a few yourself than swapping out body panels that won't be installed/painted by the factory. I realize it's not an option for all, but let's be honest...it's an option for many!
Haha!
Good thing we can spend $6,000 plus to save 40 lbs on a hood, roof and trunk. And not even get close to the first gen. 40hp more compensates some for the weight, but enough? Really not sure about this car by comparison, I've been very hopeful.
I start to realize why the Mc Laren 570s is such a cool car. About 3000 lbs and 560 hp. Granted, not in the same category.
You can buy many M2Cs with the McLaren money....
But many M2Cs will only multiply the overall weight and keep the power to weight ratio the same.

Your are absolutely spot on. I don't want a big car and the M3 doesn't fit the mold of a weekend/track car. It's not a true sports car anymore, but more of a executive limousine that is (still very) capable for the occasional HPDE. It's just hard to pass up when you can find a barley used M3C for the same price as a M2C, and it comes in better colors and with more options.
The only other downside on the M3C would be resale value. I doubt it will hold up like the M2C will.

A used M2 is also a good call. I am considering that. I could save at least $15k over a M2C and use the money for MP parts and tuning, which is part of the fun anyway.

I think it is going to come down to how the spirit moves me on the day the dealer tells me, OK time to order, which should be soon. I have a feeling I will order it, but will keep my options open until I take delivery. Pretty sure there will plenty of potential buyers willing to step in and buy my spot should I change my mind.

3rd option I'm considering, is staying put for a little longer, and get a used Porsche. Most of my car buddies all swear by the Porsche. I've been resisting all my life. I've never been a huge fan, but they are on top of their game. Only downside is price, but the resale is so good on them that it seems like a one time "investment" if you buy the right model. I've had the pleasure of driving my friends 981 Cayman S and 991.2 GTS......and I can see why there is no substitute. Those are still sports cars.

Also, if possible , let us know if any of the 150 M2 performance edition models are unsold.

The pregnant gap isn't really unintentional I think.. they've gotta let dealers sell M3/M4 CS and push all the M3 out the door as well. Plus there is still this M4.. which has a CF roof and weighs less , and we can make you a killer deal on these right now. Do you like MG? . Or perhaps the "OG" SO... Sakhir Orange .. : etc etc etc.

The P-cars experience is a must for any car enthusiasts. And it is true the right models hold their value extremely well. I owned a 2005 BoxsterS (ordered new with very few options) for 8.5 years before I sold it with 65k miles at 42% residual value in a private sale, non-inflation adjusted. It came out to $300/mo, or about what it costed to lease a Honda Accord lol. Some limited production models (Cayman R, GT4, etc.) hold their value even better although that's not necessarily good news to you.

So long as you are considering holding off for a 2-seaters, I recommend to expand your radar to include the upcoming C8 mid-engine Corvette as well. If the Corvette team keeps up the improvement trajectory from the C6 to C7 onto the C8, the latter will be epic! It is almost a sure thing to me that it will be.

It's a good time to be alive for car enthusiasts

Your Boxster was a great value. Well done. I am a firm believer in picking cars that don't depreciate as fast as the average car. I've had similar experiences with E36 M3, e46 M3 and especially an 05 WRX STI, which ended up costing me only $177/month (depreciation) over the first 4 years of ownership, while putting 12k miles per year on it mind you.

Yep, I kind of wish the GT4 and other performance Porsche's did depreciate quicker. I think part of the problem with Porsche is that they keep inflating the prices of the new ones, so the use ones seem to benefit from that. Just go on the Porsche site and configure a Carrera S for example. You'd be hard pressed to order one under $120k once you click the options you really want. I remember not too long ago that a 911 was about $70-80k. So if you bought a 911 for $90k a few years ago, it still seems like it is worth that much, because a new one will cost you $20k more.

This is why the M2 is so attractive. Granted it isn't an M3, but in it is a relative bargain when you consider the e46 M3 was about $53k back in 2001, and today you can buy the same size car, from the same brand, with 70 more hp for just $10k more. Even a frigging Cayman S will cost you $80-90k by the time you are done configuring, so it isn't like you have a entry level Porsche unless you buy one that is 5-10 years old.

Adding a M2 SOON, not sure if I want the Comp with its sad colors or a M2lci that I can dinan. GT3 coming fall of 2018!
Regret it ever since giving it up...

On the other hand, I have to keep my seat far back, so two doors is definitely better than 4 doors for me (let me have that at least).

What I miss the most is the ridiculously delicious engine... the NA V8 that sounds like a jet turbine on that deep low end growl. It's no wonder they plopped that engine into the very first iteration of the R8.

Congrats on holding onto the car...
