I just picked up my M2 over the weekend. I love the car. I switched on auto start / stop in traffic today just to see how it works. It's great however I get a loud click / knock sound every time the car stops then starts.
Is that a normal noise? I've never used stop start on another m2 before so I'm not sure. Thanks! Link to video: Last edited by bk_g80_m3; 02-28-2017 at 12:32 PM.. |

I wouldn't know...I pressed that button once, to turn it off when I picked up the car and haven't touched it since.
It doesn't sound bad though. Also keep in mind the M2 has pretty much all of its sound deadening stripped off so you hear a lot more of the car at work. |

I did some quality googling. It may be an instance of "they all do that"
For the above answer do you have MDCT or 6MT? (I have DCT) http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...6#post21345216 |

OK on another thread for M5s, a guy said the sound comes from the car putting itself into Park when it shuts off.
I'd say that's case closed. Anyway, I hope this helps someone in the future if they wonder about the sound! |

For European and ROTW cars, you have to press it every time or have it coded to NA standards. |

I have mine coded to be a toggle that the car remembers between trips. Stop/start has no place on a performance car and I can enable it if stuck in bad traffic.

Dealer won't do it. Check my thread in the iDrive/Nav forum about the app BimmerCode. It's very simple and you can do so much more than just code S/S.
