Traction Mode for 2018

Hi Guys,

My LCI has 2600 miles and have been noticing that in comfort mode the transmission shift points are too low in the rpm. So low that it bogs the engine and the DCT makes unpleasant noises.

I've also noticed that in traction mode the shift points are PERFECT. Personally I don't like to go into sport or sport+ mode in daily traffic because the throttle and everything becomes so sensitive and jerky. Traction mode seems to have all the benefits of comfort mode with ideal shift points.

Has anyone noticed this as well or is my car defective? Is there any way to make my car start in traction mode automatically and stay there? It's not a big deal but Id rather not press the traction control button every time i start the car and have the graphics wear out on the button. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Who drives in comfort? I always drive in Sport. Works fine for me in Seattle traffic. The M2 is just too much of a slug in comfort.

I believe that Traction mode in the OG M2 is also MDM - which would likely explain why the shift points feel "right".

It's also the loudest exhaust mode to my ears, which I personally like.

The only negative in my opinion is that the throttle sensitivity is too numbed down for my tastes...I wish it mimicked Sport (my favorite on the throttle front).

I'm damn sure glad they gave us Comfort/Sport/Sport+ because Comfort doesn't suit me and neither does Sport+. What I want is Sport with the extra exhaust burbles in Traction Mode.

I don't want to drive in manual mode every time i drive. That would defeat the entire purpose of having gotten the DCT.

By bogging i mean the revs are just too low for the gear. So if you're in 5th and dct kicks you into a gear and you're revving at 1k rpm in 5th the car bogs because it doesnt have any power to turn a high gear.

Every BMW requires you to select the (non-comfort) mode each time it starts, no way around that. It becomes part of the startup ritual.

Yeah, it would be nice if it remembers your drive mode. Just like how it remembers if you had your AC on or had fan on. Why should it be any different from that?

I don't feel like it ''bogs down'', your probably applying a lot of throttle and you ear the exhaust note similar to a lugging engine.

Only time I feel the confort mapping a bit lacking is going uphill on the highway.

On the street I probably drive 85% of the time in comfort mode, 10% in sports to have higher shifts and small farts and 5% in mdm to make big farts.

I appreciate the docile nature of the car in comfort mode. On track its MDM or all Off. Sports+ I think useless and ridiculous.

Note: I have the MPE exhaust with ASD coded out so I may perceive things differently than someone with a stock setup.

Safety and potential liability reasons.

If your significant other ain't into cars and unfamiliar with driving modes, trouble is ahead if the car would start in DSC OFF (driving mode from your last ride) in the rain on Cup 2 tires.

Agreed. It feels like I'm preparing the Millennium Falcon for a jump to light speed every time I start up the car.

They do it so the car warms up in comfort mode, dont abuse your car and she will love you back!

I'm sure it feels like lugging the engine.

Manual mode is the way to go, but still in traction/mdm at start up because the transmission shifts are crisper and fast rather than slow and smooth, which wears on the clutches, and annoys me.

Sport+ all day after the car is warm!

Some say the latest BMW software increased throttle sensitivity in comfort and mdm.

Some say the throttle response is better in comfort after bm3 tune.

Sorry but that is incorrect. Traction/MDM gives significantly louder pops than sport+.
