Winter Tires for 2020 M2C

I'm having a lot of difficulty understanding what a good set up for winter is. I'd like 18" wheels but I'm reading that 18" may not clear my calipers. Though I've also found some were able to clear it with 18" wheels.

Can anyone please provide some guidance? I'm okay with buying a wheel + tire set, I'd just like to get clarity on what's possible on stock everything M2C.

You won't clean the brakes with 18" wheels on the M2c unless you have aftermarket brakes.

The non-comp M2 (2016-2018) can fit some 18" wheels.

I think some wheels list as being compatible with M2C because in some markets (outside of the USA) M2C was offered with the smaller brake option.

Discount tire quoted me about 1900 for nokian hakkapeliitta r3 in 255/ 35 / 19 size. these would be mounted on the 788 wheels.

ouch.

For what tires to buy... here's a spreadsheet I made recently while browsing Tire Rack for winter tires, looking for what sizes they had available.

I had purchased the SottoZero Serie 2 last year, in 265/285 size, because I wanted to adjust my coilovers to that size and my summer tires weren't worn out enough to upgrade, so I got the winters in that size. Generally it's better to buy narrower tires for winter. I can't report on how good the SottoZero's are though, because 1) I never used winter tires before 2) I haven't driven a RWD car since my Chrysler 300 in 2006, and 3) I didn't end up mounting them last year, this coming winter will be my first time using them.

after talking to tirerack in Jan, i decided to go with a square 255/35/19 setup with the stock wheels. Pirelli SottoZero 3.

rear wheels were exposed. they survived the winter since my area has decent roads.

Jesus. Tirerack has 245 front and 265 rear Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4 for about 300-350$ each.

I see. So I think I'll definitely just run staggered. The roads I travel on daily are quite terrible. Gotta love NYC.

I actually run 265/35r19 square on my OEM wheels. Works pretty well, but I never really have to drive through any deep snow.

i read somewhere that they front liners are different for the M2C which might cause rubbing for a 265 front.

That's possible, not 100% sure TBH. I know I had zero rubbing on my 2018

Oh my... I wouldn't even think of running that stretched tire in my conditions. (winter with all possible scenarios). Just ordered staggered Michelin PA4 245/35/19 + 265/35/19. We'll see how that goes. Didn't quite like them on my previous cars compared to Pirellis II and 3 but I think/hope they just might be the right choice for M2C. Will report later if there is anything of note to report.

ps: PA4 tend to run wider than their counterparts, have a more supple sidewall that's more resistant to bubbles, rim damage is less of an issue, have better traction overall, more comfortable, but also have noticeably worse handling traits. We'll see how they fare in case of M2C.
