Anyone in Houston, Texas running either 18" or Dinan coilovers?
Hello! ** cross posting here as well as the Southwest Forum, hope the mods don't mind!
Started the search for my next daily (well, semi daily, got a few other cars to swap out if needed to keep life interesting!), drove a '18 DCT M2 in stock condition. Absolutely LOVED the car, except for the the way the car handled our absolutely sh**ty Houston roads. Test drive was around the Woodway/Voss area, lots of undulations in the road. The car behaved like it was on linear spring coilvers, ie; the whole car would move with the bumps and variations on the road, vs. the wheel travelling up/down. I have read that running 18" and/or Dinan Coilovers will help this quite a bit, but would love to possibly chat with or maybe even be taken for a ride in one if anyone is local in Houston? I'll bring something fun to give you a ride in to return the favor :-) let me know your thoughts! Thanks! Jakeg

That being said, Houston roads have to be the worst I've ever encountered anywhere in the US. If ride quality is THAT important to you though I wouldn't buy the M2. Nothing is going to make it ride smoothly in this 3rd world city. Also, take me for a ride in that 458 Last edited by Mosely; 05-06-2019 at 08:26 PM.. |

FYI, I just came out of a '15 S8 (big body, fast, cushy (boring)) and am between the e30m3 and a 986 BoxS as my dailies and am absolutely loving it. I'm also hearing that the MPE coilover could be useful to help, as the front springs are progressive?

OP, let me know how the 18s feel once you get them on. I have 2018 lci as well and live in los angeles where the roads are worse than anywhere ive driven. Im sure it's comparable to houston if not worse. I dont want to fork up thousands to get a coilover to solve this issue of mine, so looking forward to getting 18s when my tires need replacing.

Am I too late for the 458 ride? Kidding (mostly). Just wanted to chime in as another Houston M2 owner. Even though we have the worst roads in the U.S. (they have to be, right?), I have gotten used to the ride on my stock M2 and feel that it is fine around town - just took some adjustment. Not nearly as comfortable as my prior e92 M3's or even 981 Cayman, but certainly not bad as a DD.
Mosely - I really would like to lower it a bit, but with the roads and bumps, etc. I worry I would tear up the front end. Have you had any access / speed bump / downtown parking garage issues with your suspension set-up? |

I didn't adjust the suspension - I simply meant that it took me some time to personally adjust to the firmer ride - after a while it just didn't bother me much anymore. Sorry for the confusion and will check my PMs.

I've got a '19 M2 comp, but it's stock, and I live out in the sprawl and don't really notice any problems (I'm down in the Clear Lake area). I was worried about the ride slightly before I picked it up, but for where I'm driving around it's been great. I might be game for a party if you guys are meeting up though, shoot me a message if you don't mind another.

Unfortunately UK based but have moved to oem 513m with 245/265 MPSS on my 2016 M2 with MPerf coilovers.
Playing around with tyre pressures and 31-32psi works really well with oem DD - on fairly sh!tty UK roads - and TD C&R damper settings. PFA

I live in the Pearland area, and I'm new to Houston. The roads do seem pretty terrible here. I do not daily mine, but I think I'd manage just fine if I had to.

I'm in midtown, road sucks... esp some of em going out of midtown/downtown when I go to work. I also wonder if a coilover would help with ride quality? If I do decide to go would go w the bmw coils. I'm game for a m2 meet 😊😊😊
