Do you get pad smear too? That's the other, pretty much guaranteed to happen, failure mode of 2500s when they get outside their target heat range.

Yes they did smear, and the pad edges curled from the heat. Never lost bite though!

Still no longer confidence inspiring enough for me to trust on the track.

Keep the shiny side up!

2.5 days at Grattan Raceway with MVR-PCA near Grand Rapids, MI. One of my favorite events that I have been attending for many years. Had the pleasure of instructing 2 students, with a '21 GT500 and a C7Z06! A GT4RS attended the event and that was a treat to watch rip down the front straight. It definitely makes a more unique flat-6 sound.

Onto the brakes. Grattan is a fairly brake intensive course with two hard brake zones. One similar to the Mid-Ohio back straight. I had a new set of DS2500 on the front with the Camaro brake deflectors and heat shields. Temps were 90s on Friday and then 80s the rest of the weekend. The brakes felt firm all weekend, and I never lost confidence in them. They performed more consistently than they did at Mid-Ohio (pre-brake deflectors). Front pad wear seems to have improved slightly compared to my Mid-Ohio. I did not take measurements, but just eyeballing it and looking at previous pics, there seems to be slightly more left. Could just be chalked up to a difference in the tracks. I know, not a shred of objective data. One interesting thing I notice was that on the driver side outer pad, wore much faster than the other 3 front pads. The track drives clockwise, could trail braking and leaning on that front driver side for braking grip be putting some more heat through that corner, and the outer pad doesn't stay as cool as the inner (possibly because of deflectors)? (see picture) On a side note, the powertrain cooling on this car is incredible. Oil, coolant, DCT, all stayed in acceptable ranges. Oil never really got above 220F even after 10 minutes of hot laps in 90F!

In any case, I am concluding to myself that the Camaro track kit is a entry level brake cooling upgrade that provides great value for $38 shipped off Amazon and 90 minutes of install time. Yes, there are much more comprehensive brake cooling kits that are 20x more expensive and take hours to install that will way outperform this. But for the money and time investment, I think it's a no-brainer for anyone tracking and does not want to jump into high end brake cooling right away.

Next steps for me: I'm going to buy the CT5-V BlackWing ducts and try those out and report back. I'll be at Mid-Ohio again at the end of September. I will also buy some Hawk DTC-60 pads to swap onto the fronts before driving on tracks with these high speeds. I'll keep the DS2500 on the rear because they are not really wearing much. Still have probably 70% pad left. I bought the car at the beginning of the year and have done 6 track days so far. I feel as though I've learned the car and earned the right to move install more track specific equipment.

The driver side pad wear makes sense and is probably more about the clockwise direction putting more average load into that wheel bearing, making it deflect more which will make the pads wear faster due to knockback effects.

Thanks for the update and for detailing your experience with these.

Glad to hear the event was a success.

Not to mention if you go off track and parts get damaged they are low cost to replace.

I had the Speed Engineering kit, but the duct(like in pic) broke after one track event. How does your kit hold in place?

Hey everyone 2024 season is here! I ordered these from Amazon, $57 delivered. They are thicker plastic, stiffer, and more scalloped than the Camaro track pack kit. I will put this on in a couple weeks before my next track weekend and post pictures.
