M2 is the easy call for me. Especially when I look at it from exhaust sound perspective and cost perspective and enjoyment perspective.
The N55 sings a glorious song and has plenty of power for the chassis. I'm not willing to give that up for +$ and a tad more power. |

Anyone who trades their current M2, what with its N55 engine becoming obsolete this year (going out of production), for the M2 Comp will be wanting to trade that in another year or two when its S55 becomes obsolete (S58 coming next year, starting in X3M, tho the M2 Comp will surely carry the then-outdated S55 for the 2020 model year as well).

Can't vote on the app but I'm unsure. I've been on a list for 6-7 months at this point but I've been sliding towards "no" recently despite how promising the Comp looks. Will wait for the official reveal.

The M2 S55 is not the same F8X S55. Example: FMIC replacing the TMIC. This is not a minor difference which will increase turbo lag. The N55’s twin scroll spins up much faster than the twin turbo setup of the S55. The FMIC adds a longer path to the intake increasing lag. This is unlikely the only changes made to distance the M2C from the F8X while trying to appease N55 M2 owners. Down graded fueling capacity and different bottom end components are some other possible variances.
The M2 was conceived as a balanced road car that can do light track work. A car that is fast but not too fast to fully enjoy on the road, especially canyon roads. This is its ideal environment. It can be modded to be more track focused and does so very well, but the original balance is somewhat lost. The M2 Comp becomes more about numbers than a balanced road car that will be very satisfying to those who know what they’re getting. But if it’s numbers you’re after than the N55 is not the car for you and if you think the M2C will keep your interest, it won’t when the next best thing comes around. To each their own. Ill be in the canyons. Hope to see you there. |

EOP of F87 M2 is Oct 2020, F22 2-Series EOP is 2021. Usually there's a hiatus between end of production (EOP) of a BMW M model and the start of production (SOP) of its next-generation successor. S58 is now where near a M2 for 3+ years. |

Absolutely trading in and UP as soon as possible....
LOVE my '16 M2, more than I have enjoyed about any other car I've owned. Amazing balance, awesome sound, and fantastic joy per dollar investment. HOWEVER.... I can't wait to unleash the S55 and tear up some tracks in the car I drive to my office most days. To work some mods and create some (hopefully) blistering track times in a four seat coupe sounds like serious fun to me! If there later appears a GT/GTS/CS/whatever, I'll be first in line for that, also. But for now, a (hopefully) lighter, more powerful "pure" M car should be a blast! Hopefully they don't let us down with an uninspiring, overpriced upgrade....

Would only consider it if msrp isn’t huge difference, manual is an option, and red is an option.
Other than that I don’t really care for the s55, or the grilles, or the wheels. |

Don’t see them touching internals, as they are still spinning motor to 7,600. No power dome probably means no top mount intercooler. But lag isn’t a concern, would be more worried about cooling efficiency. Moving to air to air like the N55, rather than staying air to water. But as you can see, they opened up the front bumper quite a bit. I’m sure they addressed cooling, as they specifically mention it in the leaked release. More interested in the small details. Does it get any of the M4CS retuning of electronic steering and/or stability control retuning. What is the suspension changes, as it is rumored to have lowered ride height. I don’t see them wasting r&d on new turbos for an outgoing engine, going in one low volume car.

Yeah, that is worded in an interesting way. Are they referring to the turbos specifically or are they referring to the engine as a whole. The S55 definitely already has some weight optimization.

No hood bulge like M4. It is a valid assumption. His other assumptions...well...you know the saying.

A trade-in this early in the very steep depreciation curve of the M2 is going to create a pretty unreasonable financial position for 99% of people considering the Comp.
A more appropriate thread would be how many people are now considering the M2 Comp from other BMW models given the changes announced. |
