Advice requested: 2017 or 2018 M2

Similar conundrum to a previous/recent forum post…great to see the feedback from the community.

2017 M2 (MT): $41.5k, 40k miles
Specs: completely stock, MGM, decent shape (no obvious flaws) and would rate 8/10.

2018 M2 (MT): $48.5k, 25k miles
Specs: LBB, MPE, carbon fiber bits (spoiler and front/rear fins) bolt-ons (intercooler, charge & down pipe), and stage 1 tune. Very good shape, and would rate 9.5/10.

Leaning 2017. Curious if the consensus is the bolt ons, less miles, LCI, and better condition vehicle is worth the $7k premium.

I would go 2018, you get a better condition car, lower miles + a bunch of mods for only $7k more. This is not even factoring in you get a touch screen display as well which is really nice, and all the lci bits.

Definitely the 2018. The instrument panel and updated taillights were an easy deciding factor for me when I was shopping around for mine.

Only by tec specs i would choose the 2018.
The 2017 is a N55. The 2018 (Comp?) can be a S55.
So check the sound of both, if its important for you.

N55 for the '18…unsure if comps were built for that MY.

Sound for the '18 is good, if a little too loud at times with the combination of the MPE and bolt-ons.

As others have alluded, value is holding strong for the M2. It'll be interesting to see how this evolves with the new M2 release.

Everything I'm seeing is post-July 2013 is EWG for N55 builds.

I could be wrong as I had no idea there was a difference until you brought it up.

Tldr; EWG seems to be better than PWG.

I have a 2018 LCI

Benefits vs pre LCI which I'm aware of
- New tail light design
- Adaptive LED headlights
- Indicator stalk better designed
- Touch screen & newer iDrive

Thanks, that's what I've experienced in person as well, test driving both vehicles.

I acknowledge the upgrades are very nice, both cosmetically and performance-wise. Still grappling with the difference in price for vehicles so similar.

The 2018 is well worth the extra cost. Room to negotiate?

In the US there were no 2018 M2 Competitions. 2019 was the first.

If you like the mods on the 2018, then the 2018 is your choice. Good luck!

I'd go for the 2018. First make sure that you like the newer interior and headlight/taillight designs as some people prefer the pre lci look and others don't, its personal preference. Then I'd make sure the mpe on the 2018 doesn't have the rattle issue on start up.

2018. Worth it for the lower miles and LCI alone, but the mods sweeten the deal even more.

Thanks all for the inputs. Appears to be overwhelming in favor of the 2018.

Okay, then the 2018, would be the better deal. In Germany are most 2018 Comp models (S55 + OPF ) --> less sound.

Personally I chose 2017 (assuming 2017 vs 2018 NON comp). LCI update is purely cosmetic (other than touch screen - which I don't care about), and I prefer the old-school dash in the non LCI. iDrive hardware is otherwise the same, and getting the iDrive 6 look takes 10mins with BimmerCode.

TL;DR - buy the car in the best condition you can afford, in the colour you prefer.

To add, pre LCI gauges have an issue with readability under certain lighting conditions. LCI solved that issue, but be very careful when cleaning the non reflective plastic covering the instrument cluster. It'll scratch if you even look at it the wrong way… learned that lesson the hard way.

+1 for the classic BMW gauges in the 2016-2017 but between the two above options, the ‘18 is the move.
