They get a golden/browned hue. Don't go green like the blue callipers.

I guess eventually yes, as you will still get the brakes hot if only for some short very hot peaks. The stickier the tires the faster this will happen. Brake cooling mods would help, as would forced cooling after a run (like they do on F1 cars, they plug a little blower into the brake ducts). Or do some cool down laps after a run. I would set aside 500 bucks to rebuild + repaint them in 2-3 years if you autocross a lot. The dust seals die pretty quickly with track heat and that can lead to premature inner seal failure and failing brakes…

I run Ferodo ds1.11 track pads with titanium backing plates in the caliper.
I did 5 track days this year (around 1250 km on track ) I have zero discoloration, they are like new, zero fade, zero color change Last edited by tropicatango; 09-08-2021 at 01:41 PM.. |

Red goes pink on Porsche's at least. Gold CCB ones seem to be anodised, not painted, so shouldn't change colour as easily.

Anodizing definitely holds up far better than paint on track, which is why the calipers in our Competition Brake Kits have a hard anodized finish. With enough track heat, red paint turns pink/maroon/burgandy more often than not. Gold painted calipers tend to turn a deeper shade of gold, to brown, and eventually to tar black. Below is worst case scenario...hence the term 'Brownbos', which I believe was coined on NASIOC or my350Z back in the day.
When they get insanely hot and start leaking brake fluid from the bleed screws is when they really get ugly! |

I have APs (not the Essex kit but same caliper) and my bells went from black to gold/bronze which I think looks dope.
