M2C Brake Pad Sizes
First post....
Just bought an AW 2021 M2C 6-spd, no sunroof, blue stitching, carbon interior trim, Exec package and 788 Black Forged M wheels. I saved mentioning the 788 black wheels until last because I believe that even if they were Polaris Silver, they would still be black after 30 miles anyway do to the brake dust. Hence my issue. I just broke 550 miles and have cleaned the wheels 3 times and dusted the side and rear of the car more times than that. These OE pads are great, but I'm spoiled by the Akebono and Hawk Ceramic pads on my M5, 330ci ZHP and X5. Zero dust and no squeal. Here is my question. I see that Hawk has a front Ceramic pad solution from the F10 M5 that is a direct fit, but nothing that I can find for the rear application. I was told that the front pads on the OG M2 fit the rear of the M2C, but my research tells me no. So, I found that Pagid offers a rear performance pad, which I have attached. Looking at the dimensions, it is VERY similar to the Hawk HB193 footprint. (131.5mm x 68mm) vs (132mm x 67mm). Does anyone have a set of rear M2C track pads or extra OE pads they could access to verify the dimensions before I order the Hawk Ceramic pads? Perhaps a long shot, but figured I would ask. I think these Hawk HB193's will fit the rear and they are available in Ceramic, but Hawk doesn't list them as fitting. Thanks in advance for anyone able to help. |

Here's Ferodo's drawing of the M2C Rear pad shape AND they list "competitor equivalent shape numbers."

Note the comment at the top of the page about reusing the factory rear brake pad shim in order not to have slop in the fit of some aftermarket rear pads.

Clip Info Appreciated
CSBM5
Thanks for the shim info. I did read that and it makes perfect sense. I was able to find a verified Hawk distributor thru Amazon (free shipping and free returns if they don't fit) for $227.29 for both F & R. I will report what I find. Please report back on this after installation. I’m tired of dinging up my fingers and spending 45 minutes a week cleaning all the brake dust off those spider web wheels. I’d very quickly opt for a brake pad change if it meant less time cleaning.

I just installed Hawk Ceramic pads a couple days ago on my M2 Competition.
Front HB828Z.760 Rear HB193Z.670 The pads fits perfect, however there were no provisions for the brake pad sensor for the rear pads so I just ziptied them up, no fault lights. The fronts came with back plates but the rears did not so I swapped the old back plate to the new pads. I will update again to comment about brake dust.

Hawk Ceramic Pads
Quote:
I am anxious to hear how they perform after an aggressive bedding. I know they won't be as touchy as the OE pads, but I'm not concerned as they almost seem like too much at times. I have these on 2 other cars, as mentioned, so I know what I'm getting and am used to them. Even if they greatly reduce the brake dust, I think I am still going to order a set of Richland Forged RF-GT4 in Hyper Silver. These damn 788's are just stupid....took me an hour to clean, 3 different Griots Garage Microfiber wheel wands to get at all the nooks and crannies. |

Hawk Ceramic Pads at Tire Rack
As an update. I ordered my Hawk Ceramic brake pads from Tire Rack. They have them on special pricing at the moment with free shipping. Sadly, their application guide on their website is woefully outdated and the M2C fitments are not accurate. If you don't call in, and decide to order online by part number, here is what worked for me online with the pricing. Use the vehicles below to trick the system.
Front - HB828Z.760 (2013 BMW M5) Regularly $165.31 Special $124.00 Rear - HB193Z.670 (2009 Nissan GT-R) Regularly $152.60 Special $114.00 With sales tax and free shipping the total was $255.26 |

Went over this in my thread as well. Front fit fine, rear a tiny bit loose and I only hear a clunk when I reverse the car after a wash to shake some water loose.
Bite is less but still has similar stopping overall. Started squeaking a few months ago and then went away. Seems intermittent. Brake dust is a lot less but I'll probably go back to my stock pads whenever these wear down, wasn't a big enough difference in performance over cost.

Ferodo offers a fantastic pad compound that many of our customers use on the road, autoX, and sometimes even light track duty. It's called the Ferodo DS2500. It's NOT low dust, but it IS very low noise. Mainly I wanted to share the pad shape drawings front and rear since that what was requested in this post.
Keep in mind that all aftermarket pads from different manufacturers will vary slightly in size. Some will fit snugly in the caliper, while others may be looser. Some of that has to do with the manufacturer's tolerances, and some of it has to do with the compound itself. For example, sintered pads that are mostly metal tend to grow more when heated, so the manufacturer has to leave more room for expansion. When cold, the pad will therefore fit more loosely in the caliper. Also, no two pad sets will be the same exact size. Most of the time there is a tolerance of + or - X millimeters, which impacts the fit in the caliper. Here are the Ferodo pad shapes for size reference: Front= https://ecat.ferodoracing.com/produc...s/code/FCP4712 Rear= https://ecat.ferodoracing.com/produc...s/code/FCP1281 |

Overdue Follow-up
As I stated in my previous posts in this thread, the part numbers are correct and fit is perfect. Others have reported as well, and I will confirm, the rear pads do not have a slot for the sensor, which is not a big deal for me, and they are a mm narrow so sporadically they may click during braking in reverse.
Performance and Dusting: For me, on the street performance is much improved and less "on-off" feeling. You can actually modulate the pedal with less aggressive results but the overall stopping power is NOT degraded. If bedded properly, and by that I mean get them hot during the process, I have not experienced any squeaking/squealing. After the initial bedding process, which will produce some dust, I have noticed a huge reduction in brake dust and what does appear seems to rinse off much easier. Verdict: Not only are these much less expensive overall than the OE Brake Pads, they produce far less dust with minimal reduction in performance, but even that is negligible in my opinion. I have friends with the same cars and they didn't notice when we swapped cars, I had to tell them. Thanks to the other members who commented, your responses are all valid and correct. I an attempt to further reduce my time and effort cleaning wheels, I purchased a used set of the M Performance Matte Black 762m wheels from a friend as they have much more access and less nooks that the 788's. I felt that the black color masked the beauty of the wheels and made them fade away into the wheel well, so I had them powder coated a bright silver as that is NOT an option for the 763m. I love the result and appreciate the slight contrast between the caliper silver and wheel silver and love how you can see everything that is hidden by the 788's. |
