Never had my phone overheat. Are y'all closing the armrest while charging the phone? If so that's probably why it's overheating

this was the first mod I did to my M2C, ordered the 3d printed paddle for my iphone 11 pro max. Charger works great not problems with charging or over heating. It's a 30 min job, not hard at all... you have to download the cadd drawing and submit it to whatever company you decide to use for the 3d printing.

Works fine with my new Galaxy S20, very tight with my clear case but still charges.

It’s a stand alone option in Canada so I opted out. Had it in my F31 and all it did was take space away from the arm rest storage. Completely useless. Just take it out. All you need is the little rubber mat.

I have an iPhone XR with a thin case and it just barely fits. Does get a little hot after a while but seems to charge just fine. I actually like it so far. Once I have apple CarPlay going I think it will be perfect but it does worry me a little that it gets warm.

Just don’t use Waze... my wireless charger couldn’t keep up with the drain from Waze.

When Apple released the X, I stopped buying oversized phones. The resolution more than compensated for increased size.

I've never had a problem with the charger and heat. I use CarPlay all the time and it works fine.

All that said I do agree they should have made the cradle larger to handle plus sized phone.

Lucky!

Any max sized phones would require this mod. Wonder where the designer guy went. Definitely did a huge service for the community.

Really simple to perform. I like not having the charging cradle bc it's useless and the extra space in the armrest console is nice!

Hi, I have just posted a thread in the M2 technical topics -> navigation... part of this forum regarding a suggestion of how to fit a wireless charger in the Centre armrest. I wouldn’t mind some help with this so I can create a step-by-step guide. Any help would be appreciated.

Trying to remove the charger but from the linked thread above but the M2 seems to be configured differently. 2 black wires run towards the front of the center console, not the rear AC vent as documented.

Anyone know how to get this out. I'm not about to snip the cord. Thanks!

Maybe pull the shift boot and feel back from there?

That's probably pushing the limits of my limited skill set 😬

I sacrificed my left cup holder and have been using this since my m240 and now m2c:

Macally Adjustable Automobile Cup Holder Phone Mount for iPhone Xs XS Max XR X 8 8+ 7 7 Plus 6s Plus 6s SE Samsung Galaxy S10 S10E S9 S9+ S8 S7 Edge S6 Note 5, Xperia, iPod, Smartphone, GPS (MCUPMP) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007GNNH3Q..._pXoSEbHVEXAX1

i've tried and tossed everything from the a/c vent ones, the windshield suction cup types...they're all junk and annoyed me with falling off, bouncing around, etc.

this one fits snug, is adjustable, and is out of the way. only downside is that you do have to look down to see the screen, but we shouldn't be doing that anyway right? i charge it from center console with cord out of the way to the left of the e brake.

To hold the phone I use megamounts from the UK. You put a magnet plate behind your case. Super clean and simple. Easily swapped and I’ve never dropped a phone or anything like that.

If you're going to go the non-box wireless charging route, but still want wireless charging and not just a phone holder, might I suggest going the route I did. I've got one in my M2 and my X3, they're great and they do fast wireless charging as well.

https://www.ipitaka.com/collections/...irelesscharger

I use the CD slot model, but they have suction cup and vent options as well. Message me if you want a discount link.

1) Use the pry tool to lift the charging cradle from the front. Once the front is lifted, you can simple lift the entire cradle out of the armrest.
2) There are four clips (2 on each side) holding the bottom to the charger. I just used a flat head screwdriver to pop them out and then remove the charger.
3) Now the trickiest part, disassembling the charger. For this, I stuck a blade (pry tool was a bit thick) in the open space where the bracket moves and pushed down to separate the top and bottom halves.
4) Now you have access to the two t6 screws that hold the bottom bracket in place.

Below are pictures I just took of the step by step process. Let me know if I can be of more help.

BTW, with this mod i can fit my massive Note 9 on here.

Thank you so much for this mod, did it successfully myself today. Wonderful

Tried this mod today, managed to pop the cradle out. However unable to get any room to dismantle and fit 3D printed slider as the cables were very tight, did not want to pull them too much.
Any ideas on how to get a bit of slack on the cables?

🤔🤔🤔

Honestly, I never managed to make this charger work correctly even with a phone the right size, it was barely charging the phone for 10 minutes and then the phone was overheating.

I ended up removing it and putting the OEM BMW Rubber mat (51169227902) instead to have more space in the center console, and if I really want to charge it I use the USB plug, or a USB PD adapter in the cigarette lighter because it's a lot faster.

lmccM4 - i had the same issue with my 2018 X2. the cables would not allow me to pull the cradle further. To get around that, I used a plastic pry tool at the tip (the side with the blue light) and was able to separate the cradle itself by working around the separation and the top had enough slack to pull it out enough to change the cradle. I was worried I would break the tabs, but they did not break.
As for charging, it works with my apple pro max with an apple branded mag safe case. My wife's case is not apple branded and I had to turn the phone upside down. My unit also has air holes, and I am pretty sure a fan that keeps it from getting hot.
But agree with others here, that just using a usb cable is best for fast charge.
However, I do like having the modification just for having it fit.
