Stop it already, this isn't even close to true. The weight of a base 2020 M240i is ~3660 lbs with RWD and ticking the x-drive box and a few other goodies gets you to ~3900 lbs.

The car might be a bit heavier but 500lbs heavier is silly.

Well, the online review differs from the print version, but it appears: "with a DIN figure of 1690kg, it’s actually 20kg heavier than the M340i"

Looking very similar to the current F87, which is a good thing. Hopefully they restyle the new 2er taillights before the G87 comes out.

  • Will be available with a manual and an automatic. Most options will be the same as G80/G82, and I don't see much of that decontenting that was done with the original F87 compared with F80/F82. Though ceramic brakes and bucket seats seem to be missing, all the drivetrain and suspension things are the same as G82, and even carbon roof will be an option. The wheels will be 19" front and 20" rear, G87 specific design. The first four months of its production will fall into the "M 50th anniversary" period so expect the initial run to become somewhat collectible. And the new dashboard will be standard from day one.
  • G87 M2 Competition will indeed be called "M2 Competition".

Double staggered wheels are interesting but the giant dashboard screen is a slight concern.

When will we get to see real leaked or otherwise, pics of the G87? Im also considering M4, Porshe 718 GTS 4.0, C8, and Emira, and dont want to pull the string on any of these until I get a good look at the G87. Hoping its a Dramatic departure from the 2 series we've seen and would be my first choice providing its not an abomination.

Dramatic? Appearance wise, won't it just be different front and rear bumpers with some CF bits possibly thrown in? Some different wheels and they may just be call it a day. The regular 2 series already has wide fenders so i doubt there's gonna be any drastic differences in the sheet metal.

I dont know. Compare the front bumper and the hips on the F87 with its 2 series counterpart. Pretty dramatic. But yeah, it might not be different enough for me to pull the string.. Hoping..

I agree those were quite different because the F22/23 were very narrow cars so they had to add some heft to the M2. I'm also not a huge fan of the "triangles" on the new bumper but they don't look too bad when they're blacked out.

I'm hoping, like you, that the front bumper is quite different. Also, kind of hoping that the they have a standard grille...prefer not to have a "active" grille.

The fenders look wider on the test cars.

We're in the same boat…Eagerly awaiting g87 debut before deciding next move. My list is gts, emira, (maybe even a used evora gt), or c7 lol. Not digging the c8 exterior but the interior is def an improvement.

Any idea when BMW will start saying what they're offering for the 50 year anniversary?

From that angle it absolutely does

Those hips are to blame

M2 Vs Emira?

Is there an interesting sub plot developing here? I have a refundable deposit down on both G87 M2 and an Emira. Still have a preference for the M2 with back seats and a straight 6 turbo but the styling on the Emira is very magnetic. Planning for a March 2023 delivery of the 4cyl AMG Emira or M2 Anniversary which, in Australia, is effectively 8 weeks behind USA and EU.

The G80 is growing on me, but I feel like they dropped the ball on the design of the G87

That would be a real shame if true. The F87 took the world by storm and gained universal applause from the press and owners alike for its appearance and its performance. To do anything but build on that would be so counterproductive its hard to imagine. If it looks a lot like the g42 Im not gonna be happy.
