Undoubtedly this will be a fantastic car & big step up over any F87, unfortunately the pricing will be a big step up also.

There's a lot to be excited about this car, especially in the green and tan combo! (IMO)
I don't know if there will be a lot of cross-shopping between this and an M2, but I think we should all enjoy the ICE swansongs, especially if they're those offering a manual. looking at you M2/3/4, Caddy Blackwing, Emira, etc.

If there was a dealership in Phoenix/Scottsdale area I would buy one of these in a heart beat. The car will need a warranty repair at some point and then what? That exposed manual gear linkage though, and it just looks so good. Porsche are amazing but a bit sterile unless you get into a GT or an older one, I would go for the Lotus.

However by the time it hits the showroom floor here (AUS) the s/cV6 is likely to be in the region of $200k which is GT4 money. As a reference the current 'final edition' sport Exige are circa $180k here, which although an extremely capable car is too much for what it offers imo. Hell even the M2CS are circa $170k here which is just plain ridiculous imo. Unfortunately our government are an extremely greedy bunch & along with the usual 10% tax they add 33% pro-rata tax on any new car over $70k, which artificially inflates pricing. Oh there's also another 5% tax for Euro imported cars which was introduced to protect the local manufacturers (which have all collapsed now anyway), the 5% tax is still in place though ?. As I said extremely greedy !!!

If this car was 30% smaller/lighter I might have one. Oh, wait, I already have that. |

I completely lost interest in the Emira (at least the early editions) after I saw the GT4 RS lap video. I won't be able to get an allocation, but I'll sure as hell at least try (granted: different price points and class of car, but the Emira seems largely fungible with my 981 GT4, so if I'm going to spend money on an "upgrade," I want an actual upgrade).
If Lotus builds a track-oriented Emira, I may circle back after I inevitably fail to get an RS allocation. Quote:
Lotus's parts/distribution network is notoriously problematic, as well. If you want to track this thing, good luck. I love what Lotus represents in theory, but the ownership experience doesn't begin and end with how the car drives.

Full disclosure, I have an Emira on order. Very surprised to read some of the negatives in this thread, clearly from people who aren't familiar with the Lotus pedigree.

Saw the Emira or at least the pre production model today at an event from the local Lotus dealer - it had some nice looks but wasn't overwelmed. Interior Quality was not great…
Walked outside, got in the M2C and enjoyed the ride thinking it is all I need and wouldn't want to trade it in for the Lotus |

back in the day I test drove an evora when I had a 2007 e86 coupe. The car was a head turner, but definitely didn't feel as "quality" as the e86. The camry engine was also underwhelming compared to the silky smooth bmw inline six in my e86. Handling was next level though. At the time, I decided it wasn't worth the extra 80k over the e86. About a year later I test drove a porsche 981S and ordered one without hesitation, it was worth the 50k jump at the time. |

The Evora GT has so much more visceral tactility than my M2CS. The CS is a puppy with a large engine (palpably faster than M2C), and has been optimized, but the chassis capability of the Evora had lower center of gravity and feels more capable.. |

Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to personally see what kind of character Lotus has pulled out of it, but the Camry engine in the Lotus 400 sounds glorious! |

Just saw this thread. Currently own a 2022 M240i xdrive and first on a waitlist for the G87. Been spending a lot of time recently researching (what's available) the Emira. Now I'm a little torn and not sure.
Emira positives - Absolutely gorgeous and will turn a lot of heads - Very exclusive - intoxicating exhaust sound, especially after tweaking it a bit - hydraulic steering - updated interior over the Evora w/ better tech - mid engine - curb weight Negatives - A bit lacking in raw performance (assuming it performs the same as the Evora 400 since they're virtually identical in weight and engine output) - Lack of dealer network/support. Closest one is several hours away (Philadelphia is getting one in 2023 which would 2 hours away). They're are some shops not far that work on them. - no rear seat or frunk (not a deal breaker) I've been looking forward to the G87 as I see it as the more practical car while still being able to provide thrills on the road but the Emira is really making it hard. I'm sure the G87 will look nice and should perform a tad bit better than the Emira but it sure as hell won't look as good. I think how the Emira looks, will drive and the exclusivity of it is what is really attracting me to it. If price was equal, I'd pick the Emira without thinking twice. Talked to a dealer and of course first editions are all spoken for but the waitlist for base cars isn't bad. In all likelihood, the Emira base V6 will probably end up costing roughly around 20K or so more than the G87 after both are specced. Just have to decide if it's worth it…. |
