Warranty query

Hi all,

So after taking my car into BMW yesterday, they discovered that my diff has just started to develop a leakage and that one of the shaft seals will need to be replaced in the nearby future.

Luckily, I have BMW warranty. However, I am well aware that BMW have under some circumstances avoided conducting warranty work due to mods. Would I have given them a reason to not accept this under warranty as I have a Remus exhaust on the car? In theory, it should not be affected as totally different components and unrelated.

Anyone taken their car in with mods to conduct warranty work?

Thanks in advance

Oscar

On my previous F80 M3 I had a diff leak on my Stage 2 BM3 car (downpipes, remap, coilovers, etc) BMW were not fussed about the mods but wanted to argue the t0ss about whether it was a sufficient enough leak or whether it was 'sweating'. After much back and forth with service desk I spoke to the tech directly and eventually they agreed doesn't matter the severity of the 'leak' it's unlikely to get any better and may cause long term damage to diff.

So get ready for the debate on whether it's leaking or sweating!

Looking at your location, assume you used Sytner Leicester?
We’re they ok overall?

That's right.

Yeah they are ok as dealers go, identified the issue and booked me in within 2 weeks. No courtesy cars though, unless you're prepared to wait two months.

However, I would not touch their car sales department with a barge pole!

I had the leaky diff seal too (20k mikes / 2017). I didn't have the warranty so had to cough up for the labour to strip the parts and then a full 4 wheel alignment once it was reassembled. Annoyingly I recently had the alignment done. Including an Oil service I had an £840 bill. Ouch!
