Limited colors Limited options No sunroof in many markets No cf roof in ALL markets No seat upgrade options No interior upgrade options No individual sales There's a whole lotta " opportunity cost missed" .. In your words. BMW has reviewed the option to add a CF roof (as a no cost option for the customer) AND as an Optional add on for the customer that wants it.. AND as an optional feature to further move the M2 from it's other 2 series siblings). As I stated previously ... they are aware of ALL THREE of these paths and yet they chose NONE OF THE ABOVE. So.... again.. It's in the ///Marketing plan ... which basically states.. Don't like the M2 as it is now ? - F*ck off and buy an M3 or M4. Or... Step down to an M235/240. Don't want to WAIT for an M2? - F*ck off and buy an M3 or M4. Or... Step down to an M235/240 BMW would rather that customers take the *opportunity * to buy an M3 or M4 if a carbon fiber roof ( or any of the above listed items ) is so important to that customer. With the current marketing plan . BMW has recognized the opportunity for a lot more profit by having the customer buy a product that has a higher profit margin if the customer is so hung up on a single feature like the carbon fiber roof. They would REALLY love for buyers to add INDIVIDUAL color along with a whole host of profit laden options like extended leather to their M3 or M4 as well.. I bet they would have sold a LOT of M2's with CF roof as a $1500 upgrade. |

You're so right! BMW would've sold far more with the CF roof than without. Maybe they really really wanted to sell the Exec Pkg instead??

The CF roof looks great, but I'm not sure if 5kg in weight savings compared to the overall weight of the car is such a great cost/benefit and would yield a real improvement on the handling of the M2. On the other hand, a CF bonnet (or hood) would be more beneficial since it's a larger and heavier part and would help the weight balance of the car more to the rear, which would help for traction...

I bet they would have too , Cept they aren't tryna sell M2s ... They simply don't have the economies of scale in which to add items to the 2 series. The 1 series was the same. BMW makes 10x more 3 series models. Plenty of options and styles. Sedan, coupe. Gran coupe , convertible , M , diesel, GT, x drive , e drive, and of course umpteen motor options. The 2 series is made in 2 door coupe and convertible form only. This is really simple .... |

An Aston Martin is pretty much completely built this way. Compared to most automobiles.. Very little in the way of welds and lots of rivets and glue ... |

Looks cool, Weight benefit also. Love the detail of the channel recess in the roof.

That and the M2 already weighs less and they didn't need to go to exotic extremes to reduce the weight further. |
