It may be, but you're actually basing that assertion on this?

It may well be,but don't forget absolute speed is not the M2's raison d'etre.

Saying that,it wouldn't surprise me if BMW are thinking of replacing the N55 with the B58 at some stage through the M2's life cycle as it's a more efficient engine by all accounts and might have better tuning capability too.

It is not faster. Period. And then there's everything else.

Well does a M240i make sense. Off course it does(no sarcasm). It's cheaper than the M2. It's probably better irl daily driving, a more comfy ride, less noisy. It has a great engine and rwd.
So why BMW fgs, why the M240i..

But then I found this video....

And it all made sense again to get the M2 instead of an M240i

Cheers

So basically you'd chose the M2 because others know how to drift/drive it?

you might have a look at this video then, lots of things to learn and certainly you don't need to buy a M2 for this, a M135/M235 with a (OEM M performance !) diff or even a GT86 at half a price is more than enough...

besides ,at least the video it's in English...

The M240i is not "faster." I have a Porsche GT4. I am certain the new 718S with PDK is faster than the GT4 in acceleration. For that matter, the M2 with PDK is also faster than the GT4 0-60. Out of those, which is the better car?

Who the hell cares as to 0-60 or 100 between the M240 or M2. The point is the M2 will be considerably faster around a track and handles better all the time. I would much prefer the the MT M2 over an 8 speed M240i. Flame me, but small acceleration differences are no matter. If you want 0-60, go buy Corvette or similar bruiser.

Now, I do wish the M2 had manual seats, less options, less weight, etc.? Absolutely.

How about I'd go solely for the M2 based on styling. Those rear fenders, the fangs, and the iconic quad pipes...

I've parked next to a few m235i's and they all look like they needed to hit the gym

depends on how you like to go fast!

do you like to go fast in a straight line or do you like to go fast around corners?

240i stats
Acceleration: 4.8 seconds 0-100 kmh [4.6 sec with automatic]
Acceleration with xDrive: 4.4 seconds 0-100 kmh

M2 stats
Acceleration: 4.5 seconds 0-100 kmh [4.3 sec with automatic]

So, a 240i with xDrive is indeed a tad faster than a 6MT M2 and a tad slower than a DCT M2. I reckon it will be more consistent due to the AWD though and in many situations faster around a race track as well...

Only in the wet.... and even then I'd like to see the real difference.

On dryish tracks M2 will eat an AWD M240i 'understeered and heavy up front' for breakfast.

Cheers

Man, you've already posted that video at least a few times (and keep posting it) and sincerely, it was one of the very reasons why I suggested you the Chris Harris footage on "how to drift".

I'm sorry, but there isn't the sightliest trace of car control in that video (aside you've not crashed), you're looking scared shitless and continuously struggling with the car... If this is the highlight of your experience with the 1M... luckily you changed for something softer like the M2 and still...

That's no shame in learning and exercising on the track (and objectively auto analyzing your performance in private) but showing off a video like this as a lesson of driving skills, to me, it's the equivalent of the following video:

Driving skills come not with the number of cars you have bought in your life or posts on enthusiasts forums but often it's a combination of talent, adequate tutoring and especially humble learning and practice... You don't have to take my word, but ADAC Germany is regularly organizing professional driving/drifting courses where you can level your self and maybe, just maybe, learn a thing or two. And you might be surprised to learn some of the regular "students'' and fellow participants are in real life RCN/VLN drivers and nobody gives a sh*t what car you're driving, it's just about making progress and enjoying it
