I am kind of siding with the OG M2's for a few reasons. I have been discussing a low mileage '18 with a dealer for a few days now. The only problem is that I have to drive 10 hours to get it. That and the fact that there is only 2 years of warranty left make me a little nervous. I can't decide but I really love the '18 though.

You seriously wanted to change the M2 for a new M235 gran coupe?

I wouldn’t be too worried about the warranty. The OG M2 has been very reliable. If the dealer is a BMW dealer you can always have them CPO the M2. That adds another year to the warranty.

Don't worry about it now. Buy the car if you want it. If you don't want to keep the car out of warranty, sell it after two years and get an M2C. Two years will be plenty of time to get to know the car.

The longer you wait, the harder it will be to find an '18 with 2 years of warranty. Soon it will be 1. And soon after it will be too late.

You'll forget about the ten hours shortly after getting the car. As for the warranty, the n55 and these cars have been reliable so far.

Why though? the competition has better small 4 door cars. 235gc is bottom barrel in its segment.

Fair points, thank you. I would like to keep the car out of warranty to be honest and that's why I am hoping they will hold up well over time with good maintenance. Unless it turns into a pile and falls apart lol, I plan to keep it for quite a while. I have a Tacoma for hauling stuff around and bad weather also so I am covered in that regard. My wife is on board if I want to do it so all I have to do is decide today. The car is an '18 with 9K miles and I can get it for $45K. It looks immaculate and sounds like a good deal to me I think. The 10 hour drive is the only caveat, but not a huge one.

BMW isn't necessarily going in that direction with the 2 series proper. The m235 gc is based on the fwd 1 series chassis, which is built on the same foundation as the mini. The 235 is basically a fwd hatch built in the form of a compact sedan. I don't think the next generation 2 series is meant to go in this direction.
