I was told no. it really only helps if your pushing lot of power with high boost, which basically involves ethanol. stock injectors worked fine for me all the way to 550-590whp range. anything above basically has been giving me spark issues. it probably wouldn't hurt though and probably lasts longer.

How does this kit compare with the Precision Raceworks ignition kit?

so I installed the B58 coil conversion kit and the shop started with 0.025 gapping on the new B58 spark plugs but said it kept misfiring on my kill map. he then said he had to bring it back down to 0.020. this was on E60 making 653whp and 609lb-ft

We found that if you're using B58 plugs you have to keep the OEM boot on the b58 coilpack. If using N55/S55 plugs then you can use the boots that come with the Nexsys kit.

yea we started with 0.025 and then my tuner and shop agreed to drop to 0.020. this is what my tuner said. and I’m assuming they used anti seize when installing but I didn’t ask

Doesn't hurt to ask. The tip of the plug makes better contact with the coil.

ah okay, I mean they didn’t leave anything in the box with the old spark plugs and coils I had so I’m assuming they used the extended one. plus, I think I’m switching to a new shop due to overcharged pricing so I rather not contact them now to be honest lol

Your tuner knows best, if the car needs to be gapped down it needs to be gapped down. Just make sure the mechanical side is correct so he's not confusing other factors for spark blow out. |

well considering we have been through 3 different plugs with no burn out, I’m assuming he did it correctly

In that case you need to gap down, its a valid possibility. I just never expected it to be at only 600 whp, since S55's push far more before needing to gap down. Especially on the B58 coils which are significantly more powerful than stock coils, and even more powerful than the precision racewerks stuff.

But 650 whp for 0.020" on coils that are multiple times more powerful than stock vs. an s55 which makes 700 whp+ on 0.018" gap with stock coils. So this leaves me wondering if there could be a setup issue, since the goal with more powerful coils is to not run these miniscule gaps. But if everything is going well then it is fine, your tuner knows best. It just good he's not starting small, he went down as needed. |
