Just came back from the "night ride". Love the M Perf. shift knob and power slides after light rain. It is a great, fun car. You won't be disappointed and have a lot of money saved on transmission for other mods.

Yeah I think both choices are good at this point, if I can't decide I'll flip a coin at the dealer when finalising the order
But you're right that 5k EUR for DCT is alot of money here in PL.

Do you have a guide for the splices?

The display M2 at M trackday had this knob. It feels good and is the perfect size for someone with large hands.

My complaint is with the aesthetic, the silver plastic should be alcantara and the traditional shift diagram looks much better.

That thing is absolutely hideous. It seems sacriledge to stray from the might ZHP knob that is so sought after and that BMW finally just decided to use after so many generations.

Has anyone figured out how to illuminate the stock knob? I thought the ZHP knob lights up? And if this MP one lights up, why can't the stock one? :

Get an f10 m5 knob and splice into the same wires bmw is suggesting with the above. There are two models of ZHP knob.

Presumably that knob needs to be separated from the base & boot somehow and have them swapped with the stock parts? Doesn't seem like that would be simple.

It would be a cool touch to have a lit knob though.

It is. Just cut it off and use the other boot folder over, held in place with a zip tie. I've done this on all my cars. Pretty simple. Or you can separate the whole boot from the frame and attach it to your stock trim. Not difficult

Amen!

That new MP knob makes me want to vomit every time I see it. It's straight out of a ghetto mid-90's Civic owned by a wannabe racer boy/girl.

They had this shift knob installed on a few cars at M track days, looks worse in person and doesn't even feel comfortable when grabbing it. It has some weird grooves in the front which felt all types of wrong.

So far the stock shift knob is the best one to me

How do you get the M5 shifter illuminated on the M2?

I like the look. I’m sure it will feel good. Gonna order and try it. Worst case, it goes on eBay after. It’s a shift knob. Different strokes for different folks.

Let us know how you like it. I’m interested.
Could you show us which wires to tap into?
Thanks

This should help. Trying do it on my phone so not sure how it will turn out. I can try again later if this doesn't work.
