C8 vette vs M2

Own a M235i and it’s a great car. Thinking of upgrading ?
Love the m2 comp. Really think it would be a very nice car to own.
But the new C8 corvette is an awesome car also.
I think you can buy a 2020 C8 vette for same money.
Boy that makes the choice a bit harder ? Or not ?

Anyone thinking about new C8 ?
Just thinking

All depends on whether you can get away with a two seater. But the insurance on the vette will be much larger than the M2C.

base c8 corvette is similiar price to m2, but lacking in features. You have to spend ~$75k+ MSRP to get a good c8. Then there is dealer markup and availability on top of that.

If you want a car now or in the near future, and the options are c8 or m2, the m2 is going to win every time.

While this is true...this is also not a valid argument for someone who sounds like might be daily driving said car choice.

If it was me and I only needed 2 seats there is really only one choice.

I only need 2 seats and I would choose the M2 - that 'Vette looks like a kit car.
Too many holes and louvres for me.

Plus, Corvette is going the Porsche route - base model ~relatively inexpensive then try any add-ons - price skyrockets.

No Thanks.

Fair enough.

If it were a realistic option for me in the UK I'd probably choose different if prices like for like.

Auto only + GM build quality + 2 seater = no go for me.

The BASE C8 starts at what a "fully" optioned M2C currently is.

I just don't even understand threads like this. They are two entirely different cars that have entirely different functions. If you need what the M2 gives the 'Vette will never satisfy you, and vice versa.

If I were you I'd examine exactly what you NEED from this car, and that will make your choice clearer because both are fantastic in their own rights.

I've owned and tuned japanese / euro cars all my life and have been extremely satisfied. I've also been very anti-american with cars....until last year when I drove the C7 Grand Sport. The thing is a complete MONSTER. Power, handling, braking, driving dynamics, and everything else. Only thing that keeps me from buying one is whenever I see one on the road it's being driven by grandpas lol

I have the same preconception about owning a Vette. I think I could get over that if it were the car that I really wanted. It is hard to beat the M2 series including M, M2C, M2CS, for an overall fully useable fast drivers car. Sometimes I take my car to HomeDepot, fold down the rear seats, throw out a blanket and load it up! Extra long items project between the front seats like a station wagon.

best answer you'll get is not in the forum but when you go out and test drive them both back to back. That is if you can even get a test drive for the C8.

It really comes down to if you can live with an attention-getting, low, two seat sports car as a daily driver. If you can, then there's not many places the M2 will come out on top. It's hard for me to imagine it being more fun to drive than a true mid-engined sports car unless GM really messed up.

My 2 cents is that the c8 is going to be brilliant if your daily drive allows you to utilize it's strengths. If you are driving in town it may not be any more fun than driving a Honda Accord when going beyond the looks. Obviously the moments when you get to turn it up a bit are rewarding. The c8 was on my list with the M2CS. I spend most of my time in town and want something a little less refined/planted than a c8 or 911. I want the low speed thrills to be available. A manual box really helps with that, but have to take your lumps during stop and go traffic. I also wouldn't get a c8 until the flatplane motor is available. The exhaust note will really make it worthwhile.
My reference is my 17 ftype svr. There are days when I think a stick shift G70 or Accord would be more fun.

I never considered the c8, due to the no manual thing, the various delays and the inevitable mark ups.

I did strongly consider a c7 grand sport, until one day I came across a young dude and his girlfriend parking one at a local theatre. Dude barely fit in the spot and had to have his girlfriend exit the car before he parked so she’d be able to get out.

I complimented him on his car, since it was exactly how I’d want mine specced. I asked him if he liked it and he told me he loved it but “don’t buy one as a daily driver”

It Seemed like sound advice.

My M2 replaced a C7.

I've had both on the track, in the case of the C7 it was a Z51 (basically a track package) on OE tires, stock except for brake pads.

I've also raced Corvettes in the past, so I'm very familiar with the platform. I've also done literally thousands of miles at HPDE in BMWs, so I'm familiar with them as well.

The Corvette is, hands-down, the best bang for the buck. That cannot be disputed.

In base form, it has adequate options and doesn't need anything. All of my cars were base, except for one (which was an upgraded interior, a waste of money) and my C5, which was a Z06. OMG.

But, you ask: Michael, you have a BMW M2 now. It cost you like $10K more than the C7 did, brand new. It's heavier, slower, and you can't pick up hot women in it.

OK, so let's get something straight. I've had more compliments from women on the M2 than on any Corvette. You know who likes Corvettes? Middle-aged men. And senior men. If that's what rocks your boat (and I'm not judging) then get a Corvette. If you want young women, buy a Jaguar XK. BTDT. But I digress.

The Corvette is low, hard to get into, harder to get out of, smells like a toy model plane and uses 80's technology for the infotainment center (although to be fair, it came standard with Android Auto, which BMW still hasn't done, AFAIK). You cannot see out of the back of it, there is no steering feel and the lateral support in the standard seats is a joke. It's also loud and moderately uncomfortable, but then so is the M2.

Everyone at work has been asking me when I'm getting a C8. I'm going to get a t-shirt that says "No, I am not buying a new Corvette" just to stop the questions. The short reason is simple: it only has two pedals. That's a deal breaker for me, right now.

The other reason is that you never buy a first year GM product. Everyone knows that. Also, demand will outstrip supply in the first year, and you'll pay a premium or at the least, MSRP. Wait a few years and you can get 10% off without breathing hard.

.
I always find the comments about what type of men like Corvettes. I respect your opinion. I bought my first Corvette new in 1991 and I was 25 years old. I wish I had more pictures but they were lost in a house fire. The attached picture is from 1991 and I was bracket racing my 1991 C4 and I was consistent in the quarter mile and I took first place even though I was not fastest but I dialed in my C4 at 13.7 seconds for the quarter mile at MIR.

So over the past 53 years I have owned more Corvettes and my current play car is a 2018 BMW M5 (F90). Prior to the F90 I had a 2015 BMW M3 that I purchased new in July of 2014 that replaced a 2014 C7 Z51. One of my favorite Corvettes was my 2012 Z06/Z07.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I believe there is more to vehicles then just looks alone. I will say I had more people asking me why I transitioned from the C7 Z51 to the 2015 M3 (F80). My wife's co-workers at her school loved the looks of our C7 and C6 Z06/Z07.

My wife is again considering the M2C and before the holidays our dealership loaned us a 2020 M2C for a week. It was a fun car to drive but we consider the rear seats to be unpractical for transporting adults. We are in our 50's and even though I fit in the back at 5'10" at 185 pounds it is not a seat I would want to sit in very long. I am not a fan of the rear styling of the M2 and after owning our F80 M3 the side profile of the M2 just looks out of place. In our opinion the F80 is the best looking of the bunch. I am trying to talk her into a new M4.

The C8 in the 1LT (base) will sell for 60k and most 2020's have already been sold to the best of my knowledge. I could have ordered a C8 at MSRP with no mark up but I am waiting for the C8 Z06 before I make my decision. I think test driving a C8 will be difficult this year because of the popularity.

The Corvette has always been the best bang for the buck. I am looking forward to the testing and review of the C8 in the upcoming year.

I will say you can't go wrong with either vehicle. Vehicles like the M2 and Corvette are about passion / driving and not about going from A to B.

I've got some relevant experience so I'll chime in.

I went from a 2014 Cayman S 6 speed to a 2015 C7 7 speed. I had the car 3 days and wanted the cayman back. 3 weeks later I sold the C7 and ordered a 2016 Cayman S.

the c7 lacked a level of precision and integration that german cars have. It just feels kind of sloppy in comparison in so many ways. I suspect the C8 will suffer from that same feel. How much that matters to you is a question you have to answer.

the c7 is also annoyingly big and hard to see out of. Those things actually matter when you drive the car, especially in a city. The C8 is even bigger.

Longing for normal aspiration, strong low end torque and a manual transmission I recently considered the C7 again, since there are really no other options with those three characteristics out there. I went to see one and even just sitting in it, it brought back all the bad memories

I've since ordered an M2C.

I will say this, make sure you go for a LONG test drive with the C8 and M2C before you make the decision. I went for a short 10 minute test drive with the C7 and it wasn't enough time to properly assess the car and feel the fit for me, and so I ended up with a car I didn't want to live with.

Man, this was low key a huge factor in my ultimately going with the M2. I drove a car with crappy visibility for over a decade in the city, so now it's sooooo nice to be able to peek over my shoulder and not have any giant blind spots.

This may be a tough decision, I'm a BMW dude. My brother is on the ZR1 waiting list (I just can't/won't spent that much on a vehicle). He mentioned I should take a look at the new C8 coming out... I plan to order a M2C in the next few months, but now i'm contemplating the C8.
M2C more practical - C8 basically a super car hmmm.

If you can deal with no back seats, and don't mind slightly less refinement in the interior, why not? C8 is a performance bargain. The thing that would stop me is the Z51 or Grand Sport models a year or 2 out.
