40 series tires

Hey Guys ,

I’m picking up my car in January in the middle of winter .

I want to put on winter tires 235 40 and 255 40 , on the factory wheels .

I know the width should be safe ...but I don’t know if the higher sidewalk will cause any issues. I doubt it but just want to make sure when full crank tire is not hitting fender liner .

Anybody have any thoughts on this fitment .

Dealer said they will throw those sizes on for me but just make sure they clear everything ....you would think them being the dealer they could verify for me lol

Thanks in advance

It’ll be quite an increase in side wall height, but I don’t think it’ll be enough to cause clearance issues.
Fronts might rub the inner fender well on full lock..

Thoughts: clearance is the least of the problems. Speed deviation (your speedo will be inaccurate). It can mess up your abs and traction control, because these are computer calculations based on wheel speed. Not sure how sensitive a BMW is, but this would totally mess up a Porsche. If you want to step up the sidewall, you need to decrease the wheel size.

^^^well that’s exactly what I’m doing ...these cars come with 265 rear and 245 front.

But now I think I am going to just go a little thinner but keep the 35 side wall ratio ...I don’t think 10 mm of width off each tire will screw anything up too bad .

I think he meant decreasing the wheel diameter from 19” to 18” which is not an option with the M2C.
I honestly don’t think it’ll cause any traction issues with the nannies.
Observe the GPS speedo on your choice of navigation apps, and hell, it’ll help you keep the mileage low on your car!

I think this will cause an issue with the fronts. I was going to do the same thing but decided against it after checking the size difference here: https://tiresize.com/calculator/

Fairly certain it will rub in front. Heres the results from the fronts:

Size 1
Diameter
25.8"
26.4"
+2.3%

Width
9.6"
9.3"
-3.1%

Sidewall
3.4"
3.7"
+8.8%

Circum.
80.9"
82.9"
+2.3%

Revs/Mile
784
764

Thanks for the advice guys ...I went with it and didn’t mess with the sidewall.

I went with 255/35r19 rear and 235/35r19 front .

Mainly because I want sotto zero 3 and they don’t make them in 265.

You have 3-4 choices for winters in 265 and that’s it .

Should be fine just a touch thinner ...but may work out better in snow .
