The model year will change July of 2016 so if your car is built in July or later then it will be a model year (MY) 2017.

Hope this helps

My M2 wil be build in october and deliverd somewhere in november 2016.
The headoffice of BMW Belgium told me there are going to be no exterior visual changes of the BMW M2 during its lifespan. They also received info that there is going to be no M2 CSL

I've got the same decision to make. I was about to order a Black Sapphire Metallic , Manual with sunroof which will get here march april 2017. Today I was told that there is a Long Beach Blue, Manual with sunroof which will arrive in Mid to late July. It's a different dealer and he quoted me an additional $10,000 on the price form the original dealer however he is willing to negotiate done to $5,000 more than the original dealer.

I'm not too worried about the $5,000 additional cost however, the colour is not my preferred colour even though I don't mind the LBB and I would prefer new iDrive system in the 2017 model.

Get the car you really want. Don't settle on color especially.

IMHO I have a 2017 on order and there is a lot up in the air as to what is coming on the 17 model, so I am waiting. MPE exhaust is a cheaper option as you can order it from the factory and if BMW does in fact put the idrive 5.0 and car play it will reduce resale.

I have got confirmation that from july onwards the idrive 5.0 wil be on the BMW M2... Me happy
The extra WiFi, wireless induction charge for iphone, Apple CarPlay are not so interesting options...I think.

Carplay available in August production. They will get back to me on retrofit capability for July.
I'm in the same boat - My SA said the same about July production. It has the hardware and hopes they can retrofit sometime down the line.

Could you update us here when you find out from BMW Genius?

I don't believe there will be no visual difference during the F87 lifespan. Just changing the headlights or tail lights would be a exterior visual change.

This. Colour regret is THE WORST. Every time you walk up to the car.

MY16 for the 4YR/50k warranty and maintenance. MY17 comes with 3YR/36k mi warranty but NO MAINTENANCE.

I am almost certainly going to go with the 2016 but the small upgrades of the 2017 have me thinking. In all likelihood I will just do the 2016 and be driving in early to mid July, a good problem to have. Any thoughts??

You can actually increase the prepaid maintenance to include the brakes, clutch, etc. for up to 4/50K for $1000

There used to be information on the BMW builder to extend the maintenance plan to 100,000 miles, haven't seen it for this model though. I think paying 1,000 for an extra 14,000 miles of maintenance coverage would be silly because the maintenance now excludes brakes so your talking about a really expensive oil change.
