That's because for fast on the fly navigation thru your car, Apple Car Play is it. Hoping apple will update enabling google maps .

When you have people from a different country come in with their phone the nav will speak in their language. That's about the only cool feature over google maps.

BTW Apple Maps on IOS 10 is a major improvement over the old. It feels just like Google Maps. I am actually using Apple Maps again.

Doesn't idrive 5.0 have a touchscreen? Anyway it shouldn't make much difference with or without. It's just another menu system like idrive was, except simpler.

One app I would really love to see is waze, particularly for the cop warnings.

Idrive 5.0 has a few versions. 2 series not getting touch screen version.

Off subject but how buggy iOS right now been debating putting beta on my phone.

So I just confirmed with the GM from my dealer and he said that July builds and anything after should be able to download Car Play form the BMW ConnectedDrive store. He said it would be the same $300 or so.

Also said no iDrive 5.0 for the 2...so not sure if he meant across all 2 series or just the M2.

BMW's official press release said it was coming to the 2 series.

My GM said the same thing but he wasn't 100% sure. He then gave me the choice to order now or wait for the next allocation. I said F*&K that, lets have it now and take the chance of an update later.

This was 2 days ago.

I wonder if the version of software they load onto the non-carplay purchased units will still have it, just locked down. If it can be "enabled" by buying it on ConnectedDrive, it might be able to be coded in for free.
