How Many M2's Delivered?
Does anyone know, or have an educated guess, how many M2's have been delivered in the US? It seems that most, if not all, HEA cars have been distributed. So that's what 330? Also a handful of allocations 100? So 400 total since April? Just curious.

Wow Small Group
Wow that is a pretty small group. I gues it makes sense that some of the HEA cars are still trickling in. And from what has been posted here it sounds as though very few non HEA cars have been delivered. It will be interesting to see where things stand next year at this time. Undoubtedly there will be a greater volume by then but it will be interesting to see how many. It blows my mind that they have been building M2's since November 2015 and all they've only delivered 250 or so in the US. You would have thought they could have had a fair number made between Nov and April.

I follow the industry closely and subscribe to some industry publications, the growth in auto sales has slowed or stopped and BMW has seen a decline in sales of several models. I wonder if this will free up some factory capacity to put out more of the M2s? I know that suppliers play a key role in the volume of cars that can be made so I do wonder if a supplier has held back the production a bit. All in all I do expect things to pick up for the 2017 model because it will be a full production year and they have plenty of established orders. It will be interesting to see. Unfortunately they report sales grouped not separated by models so all 2 series, 228, M235 and M2 are all reported as a single number. Last month the sales of 2 series was up 18% versus the same month last year.

I'd imagine the answer would depend on if BMW decided to retool the plant. If sales are shifting to the 2-series as those numbers seem to indicate, then the plant capacity would be stressed as opposed to being freed up.

They build multiple models out of that factory and it is one of their highest producing factories, I suspect that if they suppliers can keep up they can build as many as they want. They don't need to retool the plant, they build all of these cars on the same production line, the days of single model production lines are pretty much over with the exception of the Ford F-150 other light trucks.

as of today, June 6,2016; there are 610 EH93 NA M2's produced and 43 with VIN # pending production for a total of 653 .
Certainly several more MY16's will be built in the next 3 weeks. Of these 70 were preproduction M2's and 140 were HEA cars for the dealers, or about 210 cars with codes 991,997, and 999. This leaves 400 north american allocated M2's produced to date. This also includes all the canadian M2s. Interestingly there are several "individual" cars listed. Not individual paint but with sunroof, special press cars, etc. Still parsing out the details. So it appears that total production for MY16 North American M2 will be about 700, including all the preproduction, HEA, and canadian vehicles. Ordered M2's produced off a dealer allocation will probably number just under 500 for MY16. 16 NA M2's is the largest number I have seen produced in one day (2/19/2016). Recently it seems leipzig has been pumping them out at 5-7 per day. The daily production can be as low as 1! Last edited by reppucci; 06-06-2016 at 09:18 PM.. In the month of april about 130 NA bound M2's were produced. Prior to that from Jan 1 to March 31 150 NA m2's were produced. A good majority of those were hea and preproduction vehicles. so most of those should be stateside by now. |
