While they are obviously quite different, the M2 is only around $5k more than a comparable M235i...don't know how it won't hurt sales.

You are correct, however, they never had the need to do it. Think of all the 'S' engines of the past. Then you had the S65 V8 on the last generation. Nothing better to change in my opinion. Now you have all turbo engines. I'm with you, however, I'm afraid that meeting today's efficiencies and the requirements of the CAFE may produce the kind of changes in the future. Lets hope NOT. Only time will tell.

It won't make a dent really. The M2 supply is so small compared to the M235i (and now the upcoming M240i) that if anything, those will impact M2 sales as customers move down-range.

Actually if you were to equip the M235i like the M2 then the M235i will cost more. I see BMW has removed the option to add the LSD on the M235i from the website so yeh without the LSD the m235i will be less. Which I think would be a key option for M2 buyers.

That's not correct, the M roadster had an engine change mid cycle. S52 to S54 and the S54 versions are much more desirable.

Correct, but that was within the same 'S' family. Now there is chatter from the modified N55 to a possible B58.
