LBB, DCT at BMW of El Cajon (San Diego) $20K over

Just got a call from BMW of El Cajon (San Diego). SA asked if I want to come by and see it. She said they will most likely not even let me test drive it until they receive another car.

LBB, DCT, their first "demo" car. So far, it is not spoken for and is currently for sale (at an insane SoCal markup at $20K).

To all the west coasters out there: are these mark-ups typical for most cars? Or just rare ones like the M2?

I have to admit, I am blown away they even consider asking for it, much less that anyone would actually bite.

My SoCal dealer didn't charge me a markup. In fact, I specifically asked them about it when I put down my deposit and they were adamant that markups were not in their business practice.

Having paid 2k under MSRP I'm quite content. Maybe I could sell mine to the dealer at MSRP and they could then sell it at 5k over and we would all be happy.

$20k over MSRP puts the M2 in P-car territory...that would be an easy choice for me.

I saw the sticker. Total d-bag move by BMW EC. Add them to the verified d-bag dealer list that currently includes Encinitas and Escondido. The only local dealer I've spoken to that is not charging over MSRP is BMW SD.

My brother lives near San Francisco and I get the impression that dealers in his area and LA are stingy with all M allocations and typically try to get a premium. Of course there are exception but seems to be an issue.

They mentioned that because they were part of the Penske Group, which is a publicly traded company, that they are not in the practice of charging over MSRP.

So I drove Cayman GT4 today. Before I got in I said I really like this car and may buy one. After 45 min of pretty hard driving, I was really disappointed. The clutch was REALLY heavy, it had a fair amount of drone and it didn't feel that fast. I honestly was thinking it would be a good addition to the stable, but not now. And this one stickered over 100k.
Yes I am partial to M cars but my M2 just seems and feels SOOO much better in every way. However I wouldn't pay over MSRP

All porsche gt cars are notorious for having heavy clutches so it is normal, the clutch in the gt4 actually feels much lighter then the one in the 997 gt3. I've driven my friend's GT4 for a good amount of time and the car pulls really strong and feels a lot like a go cart, torque feels really flat and his car actually made 345/302 at the wheels in stock form, similar power e92 m3 makes but more torque and only 2950 lbs. The only downside to the car I would say is the tall third gear it has, but Porsche has said this was done for efficency so the driver won't have to shift as often. You really cannot compare the power delivery of turbo cars to na flat sixes. The GT4 is really in a class of it's own...

U don't know that I get the feeling 5k over would have made the cut also.

I want to put this out there BMW of El Cajon is a pretty good place overall. But San Diego has the worst mark ups second to LA or OC.

Worst of all there is not one dealer who will price their cars fairly. Whereas in LA/OC there is at least one.

I just helped a friend get a 428 GC from BMW of Murietta for a good deal ($2.5K under invoice)

They assured me they do not markup their MSRP's. He even offered me their M4 GTS at MSRP. Might be BS, but I am hoping that they are legit.
