Coding Amber Side Markers To Front Fogs
(Note: tested on a Pre-LCI car only)
Saw this discussed in a semi-related thread but wanted to start a dedicated one for organizational purposes. As the title implies the purpose of this mod is to code the amber side markers (turn signals) to the front fog light switch. This assumes you have the side markers already coded off, either because your car came that way from the factory or because you coded them off yourself for aesthetic reasons. The coding in this thread will allow you to keep the side markers off under normal conditions, but gives you the option to reactivate them manually for safety purposes should the need arise (in bad weather perhaps). First, follow this thread to modify your headlight switch to have a front fog button: https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1646587 Stop once you get to the coding section of that thread. Rather than doing the coding in that guide to make the angel eyes the front fogs, we're going to use the orange turn signals/side markers instead. The bimmercode coding for this mod is as follows: FEM > Expert Mode > 3060lcemaster: nsw_verbaut > verbaut 3062lcelampmapping1: mapping_Blinken_Z_L_Priority: 0X01 > 0X00 mapping_Blinken_V_L_Priority: 0X01 > 0X00 mapping_Blinken_Z_R_Priority: 0X01 > 0X00 3063lcelampmapping2: Mapping_nebelschw_L_output: 0X0D Mapping_nebelschw_r_output: 0X0E mapping_Nebelschw_R_Priority: 0X00 > 0X01 mapping_Nebelschw_L_Priority: 0X00 > 0X01 mapping_Blinken_V_R_Priority: 0X01 > 0X00 Optional coding to make fog light switch work with parking lights: 3060 LceMaster > NSW_EIN_AUF_LDS_STL > Select "aktiv" Results: Big thanks to Poochie for sharing his vast array of information and knowledge as always Last edited by AndrewC1989; 03-18-2020 at 08:47 AM.. |

Thanks for the humble credit..
I like how the Xenon/side markers front profile looks, they appear very US-retro BMW.. That's a dying style, with the newer model designs, where it's now a thin LED amber strip but I had put in some excessively bright, assholy, aftermarket LEDs bulbs in mines and when you look at them on, from afar, I felt they was very glaring, almost like the high beams were powered on. I don't like being a dick to other motorist, unless I have to, so I did the front fog light toggle control, for the side markers. They also selectable with the park lights, so you now have options. You can get by on by having the side markers off, without it being a possible safety hazard because on the Pre-LCI Xenons (see below), the top LED brows wraps around the side, to substitute the side markers. |

I like the idea of using side marker as fog light, and wonder if a switchback LED bulb will work instead of incandescent amber. Not sure what type bulb or where to source it - can you recommend what/where to source bulb? TY

I have a standard LED bulb in there now and it works great. You can code out the bulb checks to avoid hyper flash. I bought mine on amazon but it seems the exact ones I purchased are no longer sold. These are similar and almost identical: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Mine have the added benefit of not having the orange sections so it looks completely silver inside of the headlight housing. |
