Blacking out the exhaust

As we all have seen, the exhaust on the M2C is not the most appealing part of the car. Based on photoshop renderings, blacking out this exhaust, might be a compelling proposition. Especially since the MPE (and likely all other exhaust upgrades) will not be permitted in Europe.

So I'm wondering whether anyone has any experience with doing this in a DIY way. Plastidip? Heat resistant paint (which one)? Coating or not? Other solutions? How do you treat the exhaust beforehand?

Any experiences (good and bad ) are most welcome.

Thanks!

You can Still get the MPE just as long as you don't live in Germany. That threads name has since been changed from "NOT LEGAL IN EUROPE" to NOT LEGAL IN GERMANY.

OK, thanks. I didn't know that. Let's just assume one would want to black out the standard exhaust purely for a visual effect, even if it's only for an intermediate period (Mperformance won't be available before end of November I believe).

I think quite a few folks on the F80/82 side have done it - if I recall correctly, it's not supposed to be too hard.

High temp matte black paint. You can get it at auto parts store or Home Depot. Search the M3/M4 forums many have done this.

Here is the thread from the F80 forum: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1127053

I didn't bother with the F80, but I think I'll do this if a trade for a M2C.

M2c exhaust treatment

Haven't had my M2c delivered yet, but the more pictures I see, the uglier the hanging exhaust looks.
Any idea on what sort of paint could be applied to mask it and when should we expect aftermarket exhausts to be offered?

Same boat as you. I hope the MPE is available relatively soon so I can avoid painting the stock setup. I really like the look of the MPE with it blacked out with the ///MPerformance on it.

Oh...that's the first time I've seen that...very nice and looks 1000 times better than stock. Does it do anything for the sound of the S55??

This was posted in a different related thread. I think it's the closest thing we have to go on right now as I don't believe we have any vids of the MPE on an m2 comp.

It does look 10x better than stock's 'cow udder' exhaust barrels but it makes the car sounds broken.

Be prepared for civilians asking you questions like "Hey, what's wrong with your car?"

The same style exhaust that was on my e92 M3 and the current M3/M4. It's just M life. Either accept it, or buy something else.

Are you responding to the hanging exhaust, the sound, or both? I'm assuming sound based on the cars you listed.

I have MPE (+sportcat)...have never had anyone say my car sounds "broken".

"Badass"
"Amazing"
"F'n amazing"
"Wicked Awesome" - that guy may have been from Boston...

...but never "broken".

The point of my post was to seek advice for something that I want to have fixed.
Isn't that the point of a forum?!
And why exactly should I accept it or buy something else?! Is it forbiddend to comment against something that BMW did not get quite right?!
Having owned an F80 M3 myself, I believe you are not correct when saying all M exhausts look alike. Come on man, the entire forum is talking about this disproportionate look!

Since you had an F80 M3, check this: https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...1466978&page=2

I never said all M exhausts look like. I said "same style exhaust".

For the record - I wasn't even responding to you.
