New Owner M2C

Hi everyone, new member and new owner of an M2C, long time lurker. I've had several BMWs in the past (e46, e92), but it has been a few years since my last one. I haven't taken any pictures yet, so forgive the txt only post, but the car is HS w DCT. While I wasn't looking for a vehicle with it, the car happened to come w an M Performance Exhaust. I was a bit nervous about having that loud contraption on my new daily driver, thinking it would be way too loud and make my daily commute uncomfortable. I must say, it's actually not bad at all; while being an expensive add-on, I really like it.

Quick question...what is supposed to come with a new M2C? I received 2 keys, an owners manual, warranty manual, XM satellite radio brochure, cargo net. My vehicle had been sitting on the lot for quite some time, just want to make sure I received everything I was supposed to. My prior BMWs came with a much larger leather portfolio, but I do realize times have changed and everything is available online for the most part.

welcome back!

as far as your list is concerned, i think that is pretty much it. hope they told you about the run-in period (first 1k-1200 miles). just follow that and bring it in for the run-in service.

enjoy the car.

Were wheel locks standard or an option of the M2C? I seem to recall they were an option and not standard, but could be remembering wrong.

No, they weren't. They were add ons, and my M2C has them (wish they didn't). Another thing to not misplace...

Agreed. I always have a paralyzing fear that I am going to lose my lock key, but then again a good shop could always remove them.

You guys didn’t get two lock keys? I got two plus the four extra wheel nuts that were removed to add the lock nuts.

I got two keys + 4 nuts. Next time I get tires changed or something, I'll get the keyed nuts off, and go to the regular nuts. I had wheels locks once (on a Honda, not BMW), and over the years it gave me issues.

Leave them on, there are a lot of shitheads out there; trust me, I personally know a few..

Wheels Stolen! https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1499799

Just remove them before they take your car into to a shop or a dealer because when they use an air impact gun on the lugs, with heavy torque, the wheel locks seize into the spline. They are really meant to be hand-tighten only.

I paid hundreds of dollars, trying to extract stuck wheel locks because some incompetent grease monkey over tighten my locks.

Each BMW wheel lock comes with a card, with a number on it. Save it and if you every lose the lock, the dealer can order a replacement key, for that lock, off just the number.

Me too!
HS with DCT and M Performance exhaust.
Also had e46 and e92 and have been away from BMW for several years.
My car is getting tbe 1200 mile service now. Will post my review after driving a little more.

Congrats on your car! Post pics or it didn't happen!

Thanks, I didn't know about the card so I just opened the box and found it. Looks like we have the same lock / code

Same reasons for not liking wheel locks...1) Losing them, 2) over tightened / stuck, 3) tire change guys forgets to put back in the car.

I live in an area where this wheel theft is unlikely, but like you said, you never know...

They are certainly a bitch to deal with but not as hurtful as waking up, on the morning of your girlfriend's mom funeral, to find your vehicle on cinder blocks, minus the wheels. I was crying profusely that day, for all the wrong reasons but no one figured out why ..

I spoke to some car/wheels thieves, since then and they not are a fan of wheel locks. It can take too long to remove, without drawing attention. So that was ringing endorsement for lockable studs, despite the shortcomings I've had with them, all of which stemmed from a dealer or local tire shop using an impact gun, to over-tighten them.

It's obviously your call but I strongly suggest you try to make them work. You might live a good neighborhood but the thieves are mobil and they love shopping around, in nice, quiet, residential locations.

Yeah, I saw that sight on a nice e36 M3 in my (supposedly) secure parking lot in philly. My honda at the time, while new, was vandalized with glass broken and stuff stolen. My wheels however were spared, maybe because of the locks (or maybe because no one gives a shit).

Did your buddies say that they know that the lock keys are usually in the vehicle? I mean all it takes is a second to break the window and find the key, no?

You're right, no harm keeping on. While my car is garaged, it is outside when I leave the house. And the M wheels are desirable, so makes sense to keep on.

Yesterday I moved the box of lugs and keys to the glove box. Time to move it back to the trunk....

Nah, if they are coming for your wheels, the name of the game is not to attract attention; extracting wheels locks with power tools is noisy.

No one in that line of business is going to spend the time ransacking your car, looking for a key that might not even be there.

And beside, I'm pretty creative where I hid my wheel look key; trust me, if they can find that, they truly deserve the wheels as a reward.

Ha Ha, no anal probing is necessary, at least not in this case..

If you must know, its disguised in plastic and foil paper, wedged underneath the battery, in the trunk, next to an emergency joint but don't tell anyone.. 🤫

You sound like my friends that provoke me, with that same rhetoric, just to get a rise 🤨

And beside, may I suggest the 763M over the 437M, the color is dealer's choice but they're like 4lbs lighter, per side.

If you're in love with your car now, trust me, reduce some unsprung weight and you'll be creaming your leather seats..
