Ohlins R&T Preload Question

I have 18" Forgestar wheels with OEM +29 offsets and RE71r 275/35/18 tires - front. Zero issues on these on stock suspension. I installed the R&T's to spec and everything was fine except the front ride height increased by about 1/4". I lowered the setup to achieve a minor drop from stock and the tire is hitting the lower spring perch - even with a 10mm spacer.

To make stuff work, I'll need to increase the preload by 1/2 to 3/4" or get a shorter spring. Spec is 5mm. I am determined to give as much room as possible for more tire. I'd really like to stuff a 295 up front at some point. There's a ton of space below the perch if the space can be made.

If I add preload to say, 20mm+, will there be any determent to handling. I honestly don't understand how dynamic vs linear spring rates work. Please help.

This page helped me understand some basics a while ago when I was installing and setting up my suspension.

Perfect, thanks. I'll play around with it tonight.

I did get some contact on the spring and perch with Cup 2 tires 255/35-19 on OEM wheels.

Ohlins with 70nm springs at 5mm of preload. I am not sure I have enaugh preload since I can easily rotate the spring by hand have some noise when reversing and turning the wheel.
