Is the tyre safe to drive on?

Hello All, I recently bought a 2017 M2 LCI and yesterday, grazed the wheel on to a metal lump stuck on the kerb, damaging the tyre and wheel.

Here's a pic of the tyre. Is it safe to drive on it still? The colour of the exposed rubber is the same as the outer bit and the gash doesn't seem too deep.
Do you think the tyre is safe to drive on?

Ouch. Sorry about the wheel--that hurts. The tire is probably okay to drive on. As you describe it, it seems pretty superficial. Just keep a close eye on it to make sure the sidewall doesn't start to bulge in that area over time, and of course, regularly check your tire pressures.

You're fine, that's just the lip designed to "protect" the rim, which clearly doesn't work. I see no damage to the ribs. Cut that piece off and don't worry about it. I did this on one of my cars before, and drove on the tire for another 3 years. Including some track days. It was fine.

Thanks all for replies. I cut off that bit and went for a spirited drive. The tyre pressure was consistent with other tyres and there's no bulging or unusual/additional vibration through the wheel.
