Yes. That was in the news here. Speeding fines way up. Accidents way down.

Hmmm.

Well, it's not rocket science; less cars on the road, means almost no traffic congestion, equal to more room to travel faster. The end.

Personally, I love it; after being stuck in gridlock traffic for many years, with no more than 15 feet of space to move, I joked with a friend, that we needed a plague or something, to come wipe out some of these people, in front of me, on the expressway..

I guess I kind of got my wish now..

Mass DOT (highway dept.) listening to my prayers is now on a resurfacing mode like I've never seen.

Not much you can do when most major roads around are being done

No fast and furious types around here for this obvious reason

Note: I'm in my truck because I NEED to, m2 would've been crying on these roads

Edit: I'm up early, before day break is common for me to see some like minded guys doing the same on our few decent roads, nothing childish but we play around a bit on some windy stretches

I remember when I was younger and I had a Lexus is300 (the original version with sport design package which meant nothing) and then a 328i, I wanted to race everyone. All of the time. You think every car on the road is basically equal to you straight up except for super cars. It took a decent amount of getting beat and near accidents (on my own and not into other cars) because of my novice in driving that caused me to change.

By the time I went to a heavily modded EvoX and an e46 M3, I started to change. When you have so much power that you can definitely die (or get close to it more often) and when you get more mature, you start realizing the stupidity of street racing. Occasional pulls on an empty highway against a punk in a G37, sure. But if there is any hint of unsafe conditions, whether it be other cars on the road, bad pavement, high speed, etc. It's just not worth it. Finding out about AutoX and track days help me fill that need for speed in a relatively safe manner.

Earlier I posted about how I brake on ppl trying to race (not brake check; read my post above) and it freaks them out. I learned that from a guy in a heavily modified e92 M3 who did that to me on the way to a cars and coffee one morning ~8-9 years ago. I remember feeling super embarrassed and on edge right after because I looked like an idiot and I thought there were cops that he picked up on a radar detector (as mine was a shitty $90 Best Buy special).

I found him at cars and coffee and complimented his car and asked him why he did that? Did he make a mistake? And he told me that it was the surest way he has ever known to immediately stop a race, embarrass the other guy, and enjoy his life without a devastating accident.

That just stuck with me.

I bet I got a better solution; when some waste of sperm rides my ass, on the expressway, I wait until they get mere inches away, from my bumper and hit the rear fog light button, of which I coded to activate the reverse lights.

Recently, I almost caused a cabdriver, who was on my asshole, to swerve into the median.. Oh well; play stupid games..

I don't race people that egg me on; arrogance aside; they drive a Honda, I have a BMW; even if you won the race, they still lost at life..

I let the baby have the bottle, that's my motto..

But the government says that speed kills. Even 6 miles an hour over the speed limit and you are likely to die.

Are you saying that isn't true?

I'm not sure what the national trend is, but I was surprised to see more traffic fatalities in MA in April 2020 than April 2019:

The COVID-19 pandemic has left streets empty. But the roadway fatality rate still doubled in April.
Some drivers are speeding with all the open roads around Massachusetts, officials say.
https://www.boston.com/news/coronavi...-massachusetts

Curiously it also mentions:

"Massachusetts State Police began an initiative on April 25 to reduce speeds after seeing an uptick, including some cases where drivers were traveling at speeds over 100 mph..."

Yea, I believe that, that's why rules exist; law are helpful guidelines, so stupid people don't hurt themselves.. Without enforcement, some people not capable of logical assessing risk and independent thinking.

Like when you see that degenerate with his rusted-out, 1989 Toyota Corolla, that's shaking like it has a case of late, Stage 5, Parkinson syndrome, blowing pass you, at 90mph; you simple move out his way and let Darwin do his thing ..

That doesn't mean that everyone that enjoys the rush of driving with some pace, automatically does so in an unsafe or reckless manner, especially, if they possess the proper equipment, to handle such lofty velocity.

I move rapidly but when I'm a rocket, I feel the road and machine visceral connection and limitations. I can reacting to any given situation that arises, in relation to my chosen speed.

Your typical jerkoff, pacing you with his shitbox on wheels, doesn't put that much thought in the risk he bestow on others, by dangerously riding your ass, with brake pads, as minuscule as his penis.

It unfortunate when a layman the word hear speeding and that lump everyone in the same category.

There is some of that know what the F they're doing and as safe 5 as a 155mph..

Unfortunately for us, many traffic laws and speed limits are written to the lowest common denominator, the '89 Corolla.

I'm aware that the set speed limits hasn't been revised since the 1970s oil crisis, when they were placed artificially low, not for safety but to preserve gas usage and the city and state just loves it that way.

A $500 ticket for traveling a mere 15MPH over the limit, is money in the bank for them, so why would they..

Fortunately, that's not the case. The national speed limit was 55 mph until the mid/late 80s. They've gone up in most places, outside of big cities. NC is 70 max, many states out west are 75 or 80. Although that's low for what most BMWs can cruise at. The bad news is all of the places where 15 over is wreckless, big fines, and possible jail time. Especially in VA. 5 over is my max thru there.

Point is, the speed limits don't take into account the safety potential of modern vehicles and just accepts the set standards, from 40 years ago, for the most part.

Most vehicles nowadays can hit 0- 60MPH, in four seconds, meanwhile, in NYC, for instance, the maximum speed limit is 50MPH, which is a slap in the face.

I don't mind, it's fun to give it some juice for a few secs and then go back to normal driving. They know from the beginning that even if they beat me, it's still an M2C - goat car

Yep. It's a great source of revenue. Down here the police have quotas to meet. It's ridiculous.

85 in Texas and Montana. Montana was the last hold out for speed limits on certain highways for a long time.
