I won't bore everyone with the detailed background but after years of debating next car options, I decided on an M2C last September

I'm a long time BMW lover (e46 m3 dealer delivery traded on an e92 m3 PCD that will remain in the garage for years to come).

I approached a local dealer (helpful with M car orders in the past) in September about an Aug 2020 Euro delivery.

Dates, as they usually are, were key. I get a month long sabbatical for work in August and want to share the experience with my kids who will be out of school. And, I'm a huge F1 fan (10 races, 9 countries, 5 continents) so I couldn't pass up a euro delivery Spa/Monza combination. Both big bucket list races.

My wife agreed to the craziness as I turn 40 this year.

Here's where things went sideways:

My dealer told me to put in a $2500 deposit in December.

I was told in early February that I had a 2020 M2C allocation. I submitted my 3 dates and was told today BMW won't honor them on 2020 builds with EOP for June 30 2020.

So I asked about 2021 production and was told there is no info.

Dealer suggested a PCD in Aug on my 2020 or a return of my deposit. What!?

This was all about fulfilling a 12 year dream to get my next M car in Munich and live the ED trip (plus F1) I so envy and want to experience.

Any informed thoughts on how to handle? Or info on 2021 allocation releases? Or 2020 production dates that would allow for mid August euro delivery?

Thanks in advance.

They generally close down the plant in June for a few weeks. You might want to call BMW NA. Ask to talk to someone about euro delivery. You have to get to a next level specialist. You'll need your order number. They have power to move delivery times around.

When I did my last ED they gave me a delivery date in Nov. 2018 for my M2C. I wanted to go to Oktoberfest so I called and begged for an earlier date. She was really nice and set me up for a mid September pickup.

That's actually very good to know that they may not do Euro delivery for remaining 2020s. I was debating with that as well or maybe just doing it with a MY21.

Please let us know how it goes! If I were to go for MY20, I probably won't place an order until mid March.

It can be a little tricky with the model year changeover starting in July, but here's what I would do - IF you don't mind possibly doing an ED pickup in Aug for a 2020 model when others may be there on the same day doing a pickup for a 2021 model:

Call BMW NA Special Sales (ED Dept) at 1-800-932-0831 & see what they might be able to do to help; explain the situation, ask if you could have a 2020 allocation moved to June production (helpful if you know the # and the build week of your 2020 allocation) and then [the completed car being] held all the way until Aug.

Other option (or if you def want a 2021 model), tho you may have to squirm for the next three months over what will become a very tight time frame as far as making reservations for the trip (i.e., I'd be concerned about plane tickets and even more so about hotel reservations since it's still summer), would be to wait until 2021 model info & allocations become available - maybe mid-May (often the third week of May, as was the case in both of my BMW orders, the second one being ED but for an Oct date).

PS - what dates did you ask for?

FYI worth noting, I just got my approval for June 4th ED for my 2020 M2C so the spots are still out there and available in June.

I'm interested to see how this turns out for you OP! I am hoping to take European Delivery of a 2020 M2CS this summer. No allocations have reached the US yet for a car that is said to be produced from March 2020 to Dec 2020.

I'm a big F1 fan also and wanted to get the trip to coincide with Spa as well! best of luck to you! Post up with what you were able to find out!

Ok, so here is my update - I couldn't get anyone at BMW to agree to have a June 2020 production car sit in storage until mid August.

There is also no info on 2021 allocations out yet and, even if I got one, I'd need a very early production date in July to get an Aug delivery at the welt.

So basically all my calls confirmed the dates were not a lock and potentially not even possible.

My wife is being very cool about this so I'm still headed to Europe with the family for sabbatical and F1 in August but I'm now also headed there in May for a week to pickup the car solo.

Not ideal but cool to get two visits in a few months time...

Fingers crossed corona virus doesn't impact the BMW ED program!

Glad it worked out (at least partially). I suppose there is some reason why BMW wouldn't hold the car for you, but I find it strange as my F80 M3 was completed in April and I did ED in June...(To be clear, I didn't ask for an extension; I just picked my date and ordered the car.)

Sounds like you're getting some BS from BMW USA. I did ED last year first two weeks of August, my car was built in April per the VIN codes.

They will hold car for Ed upto two months from production. So you could choose a Ed date if late June and then call bmw NA and ask them to move it to August due to some personal travel conflicts. I moved my June date to August after taking to raven at bmw na. Also keep in mind if you go in May some of the alpine passes will still be closed.

My understanding was prod on M2C stops in MAR 2020. Car is only manufactured from 2019-2020, no?

You have to wait for the new M2 ?

Not true. Current generation of M2C production stops on 06/2021.

However, there were some posts saying MY20 stops in March. But I don't think that is true and instead, will cease in June? Someone can fact check this for me...

I think the bottom line here is the OP is not going to get his ED, one way or the other

According to the OP's post he is...just not during August 😃. But nonetheless he will be making two trips to Europe, which is not too shabby!

However, I for one still would like confirmation if MY20 stops production in March or June as I'm thinking of ordering one

Last year 2019 production stopped in February 2019. When I ordered my car in March for a June 2019 ED, it was a 2020 model year.

I'll be able to provide more detail tomorrow but the ask for late May dates looks good per BMW genius and my SA.

Again, awaiting confirmation.

If the March production end is accurate (not confirming) the willingness for BMW to accommodate a 60 day hold makes sense on the rejection of an Aug 2020 delivery at the welt.
