Hidden exhaust mode in M2 (Traction Mode)

I wasn't sure how to name the topic, but I found an awesome and unusual thing today.

There seems to be a little "Easter egg" hidden in standard M2 exhaust and its driving modes.

As you all know if you push driving mode to Sport+ the exhaust clap would open and drastically the sound is way louder and you would hear burble when lifting of the gas pedal occasionally and exhaust is warm.

Now, today after 2 months of owning of my M2, I was in comfort mode engine was cold and I just pressed the driving stability button shortly to be in limited stability mode.

All of the sudden the exhaust started to burble like crazy and so loud in 1,2 and 3 gear between 2-4k range.

First, I thought that I was running nuts then I started to change like maniac between other modes, Sport to Sport+ back to comfort and then to Stability control completely off, but simply the loudness and longevity of exhaust burble can't be compared with any other mode so far.

I would like to hear if anyone else has noticed this if not, I would like if someone can give it a try.

It's ridiculous how addictive it sounds...

Once again, start your car in comfort mode and press DSC button once shortly to put it in limited mode and drive and lift the gas pedal in 1,2 and 3 gear from 4k RPM range to 2k RPM range.

One more thing I have 6speed manual, so for DCT owners change to manual shifting mode if it's possible in comfort mode.

Another reason to take the M2 for a spin this sunny Sunday morning.

I'm gone, see ya.

What is comfort mode? LOL. I'm basically in Sport+ 99% of the time at this point. Thanks for the tip OP, I'll have to check this out, even though I don't think I could leave it in Comfort for long, haha.

Try DSC off (long press the traction button for 5 seconds), that is when the fun begins.

Garage List
Pressing the DSC button will put the car in MDM which in turn sets steering and such to sport.

What's MDM? I thought it just enabled DTC so that car allows wheel slippage.

There are only 2 modes... Except when you put the suspension in track mode, then the exhaust cutouts open.

It may sound crazy but I totally agree with the OP. I am currently on a 1600 mile road trip and have been playing around with the controls. I did in fact put it in comfort mode in a small town then quickly pressed the DSC button. There is no question the burble is louder than even sport plus when you accelerate then let your foot of the throttle. Kinda fun with windows down in a small town.

And it breaks traction easy lol...

When you do the same in sport + (DSC) the Ecu pulls power big time.

I expected what would be the initial reaction, until someone actually simply understands what needs to do in order to replicate this and hear it for himself.

First of all, I always drive with windows down both mine and passenger side, so that's how I spotted this difference way easier.

Now, yesterday I wanted to find out if exhaust clamp opens like it does in Sport+ mode, but it doesn't.

I instructed my friend to switch between the modes, while I was listening at the exhaust side, and it opens on idle just in Sport, sport+ and DSC completely off(press DSC for a long time) mode.

While, I couldn't hear clearly, but when in comfort mode + DSC button pressed once quickly, exhaust clamp is closed on idle but I think it open up over 2k RPM's.

Which clearly makes it exhaust dynamic mode which is not mentioned anywhere in the manual.

This is why I think it's a clearly "easter egg" thing, as it doesn't have any actual purpose except to draw a lot attention while commuting in town with normal gas response.

Anyway, huge thanks goes to sneaky M engineers who implemented this without telling their superiors about it and making it official.

After finding about it, I simply lost need to go MPE, so I will stick with stock exhaust muffler and get fabsport sport-cat for sure! I think it would be the brutal combination.
