New EU based M2C EL exhaust

Hi Guys,

Alert: cow utter pictures below, my 2020 M2C

Since there seems to be very little choice of M2C S55 EL exhaust setups, in the EU in special (but also internationally), I have decided to move forward and start my own project.

The final setup is still to be designed, but the end of this week the bottom of the M2C will be scanned after which a CAD 3D design will be made. The final setup is is not known yet (most likely a Valvetronic/TGM like setup) but we decided to do the design the proper way and go the full monty:

The objective is a nice and deep, "racy" 6 in line sound, with a distinctive turbo whistle. No rasp. No tin can sound.

1) scan the M2C incl and excl exhaust (end of this week)
2) design exhaust + jig
3) bend/weld/fit/install
4) test, adjust, test, adjust, test
5) shoot movies with proper sound recording
6) ready for mass production

The whole process will be done with an experienced exhaust builder that has made many custom exhausts from cars ranging from classic cars, exotic cars like Ferrari/Lamborghini, Dakar Rally Raid exhausts, etc., they did my F10/M5 in 2013 where I requested a special tone, which they hit spot on.

Two types of exhausts will be designed:

a) OPF back
b) Catback

The idea is to offer the possibility to have the kit in such a way that a OPF back system can easily be transferred into a Catback system. The exhaust will be SS, have a choice of tip finishing, easy to install and top quality.

Once the M2C platform is ready, we will adjust the design to fit the M3/M4.

Comments remarks questions requests, all welcome. This is a project from petrolheads for petrolheads.

Will keep you updated in this topic.

Regards

Erik -Netherlands-

Haha, no worries.
I reckon roughly 1.5-2 months from end of this week, however will be pushing for sooner. We do have the possibility for a minimeet and live test !!!

I should receive my car in 1,5 to 2 months but me and my buddies Kankles and Megator (who also is on DF) will be definitely up for a listening session 😀

I was excited for a second that another NL expat had bought an M2C till I saw its an oude bekende

Erik plan sounds awesome. Will tips be stock diameter? I would not mind reusing the OEM ones. I hate this trend of garish tips.

Hi Megator, yeah it's me there will be various tip options, would need to check if OEM fits, but if it doesn't we can make it fit.

So today was 3D scan day. The aim is to CNC bend as much as possible. In the end, the best weld is no weld. The design will be as such that Titanium in stead of Stainless Steel would be an option.

and some video:

Now the CAD design can kickoff.
Hope to be able to update you soon.

Erik

The first update just dropped in my mailbox. Slowly we're getting there, merging point not drawn in yet, backbox to be defined. In one of the pics you will notice the red line(s) for the dividing point for us EU guys OPF equipped cars, to leave them the choice to leave them OPF's in place. The diameter of the pipes I have to look into, they seem a bit big. Looks nice but should serve a purpose. The straight pipes at the end will need to be remodelled as they are too low, they are indicative. The backbox design will be done old school under the car, and then reverse engineered into the model, for the mass production/jig setup.

A new option which we are further exploring is offering a titanium version as well......

The perspective also fooled my brain a bit, on the screen turning/manipulating the model shows the system much better than a couple of screenshots.

These are the dividing lines (for the guys that like to leave the OPF's in place)

I am also getting in contact with some guys capable of performing proper sound and vid takes, in- and outside car footage and roadside approaching, passing, and driving away scenario's in order to record as close as to the human ear would let you experience this new exhaust.

To be continued

Cross Over point will be where the lengths will be equal, the idea we have now goes into the model next week, will look like a double Y on the bottom.

Plan B is in the make while further developing plan A, and believe me, I really like the look and feel of the double oempaloempa merging like this:

Will you keep valves to have silent and noisy configurations?

Do you thing that only midpipe after opf and before original silencer can be considered?

Yes the OEM valves will remain in place and function as normal.
Regarding OPF. The exhaust will be splitted just after the original OPF location. This means that the user will be able to go OPF, OPF-less, or go OPF now and maybe take them out later.

Cuts will be here at the red line:

Really cool. Keep in mind it's not just about equal length, bends slow down the exhaust pulses.

Hi guys, my car is scheduled to go back on the lift after I return from Holiday somewhere beginning of August.

I am quite exited from what I have seen but we really like to offer some flexibility in regard to yes/no OPF delete (EU), tip choices etc.

Hi Guys,
Sorry for the radio silence the past weeks, things have been quit hectic lately...

Ok, slight delay due to covid19 production setbacks, however, last week we managed to put the M2C on the lift and bend the Portside pipe
Will do the same for Starboard

Once we have those underneath the car we will build our resonators, the cut behind the OPF's, valves, and X pipe behind the backbox, divertors inside the bqckbox etc. Since we will be going for this approach first, i.o. the TGM approach with joining pipes at portside, we will do some sound engineering to hit the sweet spot.
Next week the car goes the complete week on the lift if required.
Keep you posted.
Erik
