Has anyone found a better way to mount their FMIC?

The tiny OEM FMIC is secured by screwing two screws into a piece of plastic. Any massive, heavy, aftermarket FMIC is also somehow supported by screws in that same tiny piece of plastic.

Even with the bigger screws that CSF provided, one of them backed out of the plastic and now my FMIC is completely hanging down on one side.

I can't believe this is how the FMIC is supposed to be supported. There has to be a better, more secure way of mounting such a massive FMIC to the car.

I was waiting for this day to happen and really don't trust a slightly bigger screw to keep holding the FMIC up. The threads on that side must have been stripped out a bit during the FMIC install.

Has anyone else had this happen? And have you found a better way to keep the FMIC supported to the car?

Never had an issue. I did however use larger washers. Between that and the fact that the intercooler piping provides support there's never been an issue.

Stripping threads during the install really isn't the intercoolers fault. I don't think I've ever read or heard of anyone else having this particular problem.

Yea I haven't either, but all it takes is 1 time for those plastic threads to be ruined. It's not like you can chase plastic threads like you can with metal.

If there's enough meat left you can always drill them out slightly and go with a slightly oversize screw. A more expensive option would be to helicoil. I would imagine it would work but I've never helicoiled plastic, just aluminum.

Unfortunately only 2/3 intercoolers on the market have additional mounting points in addition to the stock location.

You could try a sheet metal screw with more/bigger threads.

I had my doubt too when seeing the "weak" mount.

As I recall, I used bigger screw/bolts (not from the IC vendor) when installing Wagner IC. Worked fine.

weak mount

When I replaced my Intercooler I could not believe these 2 flimsy screws were the only ones holding it in place, taking into considerations my aftermarket was 3x the weight of the OEM one. However, much of the intercooler is supported by the Hot and Cold side Pipes. I have had no issues so far though.

No but probably stock hardware. No one has had a problem up till this point that I've read about other than the OP who (possibly) over tightened his and stripped the holes.

One time replacement should cause no issues but for people who have to revert to stock everytime they bring the car into the dealer it will wear out the plastic mounting tabs
