Reviewing my Production order, I see this code and description on the order sheet. Searched this forum - still not sure what it is. Anyone ?

I believe that is a programing for the lighting that matches the USA standards. When you think about it they have a tremendous number of combinations of government standards and regional differences, even language. I believe that is what this is.

If you enable it it tries to aim your high beams around cars in front of you, its the "anti dazzle" feature that they have in Europe IIRC.

This feature you talk of is an LED only option. this I found out when I was trying to code it.

8S4 is the adaptive headlights. This you will notice when you drive and turn you will notice the headlights are moving with you.

Ah damn, I had heard people back on the regular 2 series section of this forum say they got it to work for them coding it into their M235i when that was my ride of choice.

From what I understand, xenon lights can be decoded on the M235 to anti-dazzle if you have the option. There was some debate as to whether the light hardware is exactly the same on US models though.

Hrm, guess I'll just have to get my car coded after my 1,200 mile service (just hit 508 miles this morning ) and see if it actually does anything.

I re-coded it on my M2. They do the anti-dazzle. I had LED's on the F80, those are just more advanced.

I have the high beam assistant and it works pretty well on my MY17 (turns high beam when lighting is low and turns high beam down when meeting upcoming traffic).

Is this referred to as anti-dazzle feature?

No,anti-dazzle leaves your high beams on and seperates the projected light,so that it doesn't dazzle other drivers in front of you,or oncoming fraffic approaching from the other side of the road.Apparently it works much better with the LED headlights than the Xenons.

8S4 is added to all US cars equipped with Adaptive Front Lighting to disable (decode) the ROW Low Beam Light Distribution patterns. This is due to regulations restricting their use so US Bi-Xenon Projectors do not contain a multi-position roller assembly. Partial functionality of VLD can be coded in by removing 8S4, however the beam shaping is not possible. Only the swiveling and beam throw are possible. Glare-Free/No-Dazzle High Beams are completely different and proper functionality is not possible with US Bi-Xenon headlamps even with enabling codes applied.

So I noticed more up and down motion of the lights. Like they will fall behind the car in front. Never noticed it doing that before. Before I only saw left and right motions which seemed to move with the steering.

Interesting, I thought F87 was "adaptive" out of box. Guess this is a little more features?

its adaptive stock. I think this is more for the auto high beam. So High beams turn on in situations that it wouldn't before and you can see the lights adjust its distance between you and the car in-front.
